Fact or Fiction: Bowers’ Injury, Pittman on the Hot Seat, Shedeur for Heisman

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines if UGA’s title chances are shot because of the Brock Bowers injury…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Brock Bowers injury kills UGA’s chances at the national title.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Georgia is good, they are very good. But they aren’t the UGA we saw last year and the year before that could win with defense and overpower most with the run and short passing game. They need more this year. They need Brock Bowers to take over at times. He’s the best player on the roster and creates so many issues for defensive coordinators that his absence will be tough for Georgia to overcome. There is depth, as Oscar Delp is very solid, but this is a loss that is tough to overcome, and we don’t know when he will be back or how healthy and effective he will be when he returns. I think UGA stumbles either against Ole Miss or Tennessee or in the SEC title game. If they make it to the playoff and he’s back healthy, this could be a bad take, but I’d be worried.

2. Sam Pittman is on the hot seat.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Not yet. This season has been bad as they stand 2-5 overall and 0-4 in conference and he’s 10-20 in his SEC career as a head coach. But I don’t think Arkansas is ready to move on, and he’ll be back next season, barring a terrible finish. All five remaining games can be won as Mississippi State, Florida, Auburn, FIU, and Missouri aren’t murderers row, and if they go 3-2 and finish 5-7, he should get another chance.

3. Shedeur Sanders should be in the Heisman discussion.

Farrell’s take: FACT

With 21 touchdowns and only 3 picks and leading the nation in passing yards, he should be in the discussion. Colorado hasn’t beaten anyone good, and the loss to Stanford was awful, but it’s not on him despite that late pick. He’s carried this team offensively, and his stats alone should have him mentioned.
