Miami, Mario Cristobal
If you lose a game like that, you make the list. Fans are shaking their heads and wondering what else can go wrong after the self-inflicted loss against Georgia Tech. Mario had led Miami to a great win over Texas A&M, which is all but forgotten. Last year’s disappointment and last week’s gaffe have the Cane faithful pulling their hair out and asking if he’s the man for the job? There is no excuse for Cristobal’s late game decisions last week, he knows that. He also knows the Canes are getting better and that roster has improved since he took over. He did well at Oregon and spent time with Saban at Alabama. Miami could, and have, done worse in head coaches.

Arkansas, Sam Pittman
Taking over in the wake of the Chad Morris disaster, Pittman did a magnificent job of bringing the Hogs back to prominence and being competitive against their SEC foes. He has done a great job of that. But after that happens the fans expect you to win some of those games, which his teams have not been able to do.
An injured Rocket Sanders isn’t helping his case but winning some of these games is now turning into a requirement for him. I think it would be unfair and a mistake if Pittman is let go, unless they splurge on a whale of a coach.

Syracuse, Dino Babers
Dino started 2022 on the hot seat and ripped off 6 wins in a row to start the season. Since in the last year (October 15th of 2022) the Orange have won a single conference game, last year at Boston College. They are beating the teams they should be beating, but losing to everyone else. Fans at P5 programs grow sick of that. Dino’s teams are running the ball and playing good defense, but that has proved to not work against similar or better teams.
The last three games of this season, Pitt, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest may determine if Babers is back on the Orange sideline next year.

Minnesota, P.J. Fleck
Fleck is a program building winner who has set the floor high and is extremely consistent. He is also, in the eyes of many, a smarmy and substance-less glory hound who’s catch phrases sound like nails on a chalkboard. Fleck has brought in the longest period of sustained success for the Gophers since Murray Warmath in the early 1960’s. He also wears on people and is having a down year by any standards. Some people will want him gone and be happy about it, not realizing what they’ve lost until it’s gone.

Ball State, Mike Neu
All good things come to an end, that could be the Mike Neu tenure after 2023. Neu built up the Cardinals and had an impressive 7-1 season during the covid shortened season of 2020. His teams have regressed since then, going 6-7 and 5-7. Sitting at 1-5 so far in 2023, the outlook isn’t good. Mike Neu will have the respect and thanks for the Cardinal fans, but they also look ready to go in a different direction.
Ball State 🏈 head coach Mike Neu on the direction of the offense moving forward.
“We [have been] operating one style depending on this quarterback, we [have been] operating another style based on that quarterback, [but] we got to focus on what we do well and go with that.”
