In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Alabama is still a danger to make the playoff.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I don’t see it. I have said that Alabama isn’t scary anymore, and I stand by that. That being said, I felt they’d defeat Ole Miss at home because this is still Nick Saban and Alabama, and there is a ton of pride at stake. But to run the table and win the SEC? This team doesn’t have that roster anymore despite the improvement of Jalen Milroe in the last game and better play-calling. Another loss will likely eliminate them from playoff contention, and it’s coming whether it’s from LSU, Kentucky, or Georgia in the SEC title game or an upset to Texas A&M or Arkansas. This was a nice win, but it doesn’t change a ton.

2. Ole Miss is underachieving.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Ole Miss should be better than this. It all started last season when Lane Kiffin flirted with the Auburn job for a month and the Rebels limped down the stretch with losses to Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Texas Tech. This year, they looked average against Tulane without their QB and a bad Georgia Tech team, and they just got thumped by Alabama. Ole Miss fought hard and paid big bucks to keep Kiffin in the fold, but with his offensive acumen, a roster that has been enhanced greatly by the portal, and a weakened SEC West, they are just not delivering.

3. Florida State should be No. 1 in the country.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Why not? A win over LSU, who is still ranked in the Top 15, and a win over Clemson, who was in the Top 25, is more impressive than anything UGA, Michigan, Texas, or Ohio State have done. The Buckeyes’ win over Notre Dame was a big one, but they beat no one before that, so I’ll stand on the table for the Seminoles, who have clearly the best wins of anyone so far.
