Fact or Fiction: Oregon will Demolish Colorado, Ty Simpson as QB1, Billy Napier Back on Track

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines whether Oregon will run amok on Colorado’s porous defense…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Oregon will expose the Colorado defense.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Colorado is 3-0, and I expected them to be 1-2 right now, so kudos to Deion Sanders and company. And as fun as the offense has been to watch, the defense is sometimes scary bad. So I expect Bo Nix and the Ducks to have a huge day against the Buffs and perhaps hang 45 on them. The question is, will Colorado score more? The Oregon defense is better than the Buffs, but when Shedeur Sanders and company have to throw, they can put up points. This could be a shootout, although missing Travis Hunter will be rough.

2. Ty Simpson is the answer for Alabama at QB.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

If I were Nick Saban, I’d go back to Jalen Milroe, but this time with a good offensive scheme and game plan. OC Tommy Rees used Milroe incorrectly early in the season, as this should be a run-heavy, RPO offense similar to what Gus Malzahn did with Cam Newton ages ago. Milroe is not Newton, not even close, but that’s the best offensive game plan for Alabama as we see the limitations of pocket passers Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson.

3. Billy Napier is on track with the Gators.

Farrell’s take: FACT

This was a huge win for Napier. Tennessee doesn’t look good, especially on defense, but they are ranked and well thought of nationally, so this helps Napier big time moving forward. My worry with Napier has never been his coaching but more the patience of the Gators fans and boosters. Wins like this help keep them satisfied and at bay, as he builds toward the 2025 (not 2024) season as a potential breakout. Every big win he can amass keeps the plan in place. As he says, it “validates” the plan.
