The first two weeks of college football have undoubtedly lived up to the hype, treating fans to a plethora of exhilarating games and jaw-dropping upsets. As we approach week 3, you might look at the weekend slate and consider it a down week. However, in the realm of college football’s unpredictability, there’s no such thing as a dull week. Here’s a list of matchups that should grab your attention this weekend.
#15 Kansas State at Missouri (12:00 PM EST)
The reigning Big 12 champions have effortlessly breezed through their first two opponents, who were of lesser caliber. Now, they face their first real challenge of the season in a Missouri team seeking redemption from last year’s clash. The Tigers also enter this game at 2-0, after a close call against MTSU last week. This showdown promises to be a good one, pitting Kansas State’s potent offense against Missouri’s stout defense.

Minnesota at #20 North Carolina (3:30 PM EST)
Following a commanding performance in week 1 against South Carolina, the Tar Heels were brought back to reality, barely squeaking past App State in overtime last weekend. Meanwhile, PJ Fleck‘s Golden Gophers have clinched gritty wins in the opening weeks. Despite North Carolina being the favorites, if Minnesota turns this game into a dogfight, it may prove much closer than anticipated.

#8 Washington at Michigan State (5:00 PM EST)
While the Huskies are heavily favored against the Spartans, this matchup has all the markings of a surprise. It’s the first game post-Mel Tucker for Michigan State, so emotions for players and fans will be high. A cross-country road game, a weird kickoff time, and an interim head coach’s debut all set the stage for a potentially chaotic and unpredictable clash.

Pitt at West Virginia (7:30 PM EST)
The Backyard Brawl provided one of the most thrilling games last year and is poised for another exciting battle this season. A nighttime kickoff, combined with the intensity surrounding this historic rivalry, promises a stadium bubbling with energy. Although this game may not have any bearing on the college football playoffs, it’s a must-watch for anyone craving the unpredictable and wild side of football.

TCU at Houston (8:00 PM EST)
Both TCU and Houston have been on the wrong side of some major upsets early in the season and are seeking to right their ships. TCU, riding the momentum of last season’s magical run, saw their hype extinguished by Colorado in week 1. On the other hand, Houston’s excitement of being in the Big 12 has died out a little as they lost to Rice in double overtime. Saturday offers a prime opportunity for Houston to prove their mettle against the Horned Frogs and assert their presence among the big boys.

Colorado State at #18 Colorado (10:00 PM EST)
It should be of no surprise to find the Buffs on this list, as they’ve become must-see TV. Besides the compelling story being written, their offense has unexpectedly emerged as one of the most dynamic in the country. With a charismatic figure like Deion Sanders and star players such as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter Jr, this team has quickly become a fan favorite nationwide. The question in this game is how focused will the Buffs be against their in-state rivals? Aside from all the media attention, Colorado has a huge game coming up against Oregon next weekend, which sets the stage for a trap game this Saturday vs. the Rams.
