Alabama – Won against MTSU (56-7)

The Good

Jalen Milroe was impressive, accounting for five total touchdowns and delivering an efficient passing performance. On the defensive side, they suffocated MTSU, preventing them from ever getting anything going.

The Bad:

Alabama’s offensive line wasn’t as dominant as expected, allowing some pressure on Milroe and struggling at times to run the ball.

Arkansas – Won against Western Carolina (56-13)

The Good

KJ Jefferson looks the healthiest he’s been in two years and was very efficient passing the ball. Defensively, they forced five turnovers, a positive sign for the season ahead.

The Bad

The Razorbacks struggled to move the ball on the ground, especially star running back Raheim Sanders, who only managed to average 2.8 yards a carry.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Auburn – Won against UMass (59-14)

The Good

Auburn’s run game dominated for 289 yards and five touchdowns, Payton Thorne had some really good throws and Robby Ashford was effective in the red zone. Defensively, they were able to pressure the quarterback all game.

The Bad

Auburn’s run defense looked very suspect as the Minutemen had too much success running the football. UMass’s Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams had over 100 yards rushing on 7.2 ypc and Auburn must improve on this before SEC teams really run over them.

LSU – Lost against Florida State (24-45)

The Good

The defense disrupted the run game and was able to contain Trey Benson for the majority of the game and limited big runs from FSU. Offensively, they moved the ball well in the first half.

The Bad

The whole team imploded in the second half, losing 31-7 after being up at halftime. Jayden Daniels and the offense looked completely out of sync and the secondary also had no answer all game for Keon Coleman.

Mississippi State – Win against Southeastern Louisiana (48-7)

The Good

Moving away from the Air Raid, Mississippi State’s run game excelled, gaining almost 300 yards. Their special teams unit also impressed last Saturday with a blocked punt for a touchdown.

The Bad

Mississippi State had a slow offensive start in the first half, only scoring three points in the first quarter. The offensive line also faced some challenges against a subpar opponent.

Ole Miss – Win against Mercer (73-7)

The Good

Louisiana Tech transfer Tre Harris looked unstoppable with four touchdowns and 133 receiving yards. The revamped defense performed well under new coordinator Pete Golding.

The Bad

The Rebels didn’t play the cleanest brand of football and committed more penalties than Lane Kiffin would like to see.

Texas A&M – Won against New Mexico (52-10)

The Good

Bobby Petrino brought life to the offense and Connor Weigman looked comfortable in his second year in command. Josh DeBerry, a Boston College transfer, had a dominant performance and filled the stat sheet in his A&M Debut.

The Bad

The Aggies committed nine penalties which could bite them against a more formidable opponent.
