The Quarterback is the most important position in football. The offensive signal caller commands the team and leads them into battle each week while taking gut-crushing hits from monster defenders. In this series, we will dive deep into each Power Five team’s QB room, starting with Jeff Hafley’s Boston College team.
Departures
Boston College had two QBs leave via the portal. First is Phil Jurkovec. After transferring to the Eagles before 2020, he battled injuries in his time at Boston. However, when he was on the field, Jurkovec managed to toss around 5,000 yards, along with thirty-five touchdowns in those three years. With only one year of eligibility remaining, Jurkovec chose to transfer again, this time to Pittsburgh.

The second transfer QB is Daelen Menard. Menard never appeared in a game for the Eagles, so after earning a degree from the prestigious university, Daelen took his talents to D2 New Haven University. With limited time remaining, Menard looks to get on the field for a lower-caliber school.

New Additions
Sophomore Thomas Castellanos transferred in from UCF and adds depth to the Eagles. The 2022 QB ranked as a three-star and ranked the forty-sixth-best transfer QB. Castellanos accumulated 195 total yards and a touchdown in his lone season and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

Boston College also landed one quarterback from high school. Jacobe Robinson from Henderson, Texas, will join the team this fall. He ranked as a three-star, 890th in the nation, and the fortieth-ranked quarterback according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
During his junior season, Robinson tossed over two thousand yards and twenty-two touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions. As a recruit, he held five offers, with Boston College being the only one in the FBS. Robinson looks to help Coach Haffley shape the future of Boston College Football.

The Returning QBs

Sophomore Emmett Morehead kicks it off. He took over at the end of last season and managed to toss ten touchdowns and over one thousand yards. The tall 6-6 QB ranked as a three-star and 103rd at the QB position in the class of 2021. Morehead hails from Alexandria, Virginia, and has three years of eligibility remaining. He is the expected starter this season and should put up good numbers for BC.

Jack Brandon is second. The three-star signal caller hails from Chesire, Connecticut, and also committed to the Eagles in the 2021 class but as a preferred walk-on. Brandon ranked as the 117th QB in his class with three years of eligibility remaining. He has yet to appear in a game for the Eagles.
Matthew Rueve is next. The 2020 three-star hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended St. Xavier School, and he ranked seventy-second at the QB position. Rueve has three years of eligibility remaining but has yet to appear in a game for Boston College.
Peter Delaportas is fourth. The 2022 signal-caller hails from Oak Ridge, New Jersey, and ranked thirty-fifth at the QB position in the 2022 class. After briefly entering the portal, Delaportas removed his name and is back for the Eagles this fall. He’s young, but also the highest-rated prospect in the room and will compete for the starting job in the future.
Last up in the room is Shane Hanafin. The other 2022 QB redshirted last year and still has four years of eligibility remaining. The Massachusetts native was unranked and chose to stay home as a preferred walk-on. He adds depth to the Eagles’ roster but likely won’t play.
Overall the Eagles have a decent QB room for the ACC with lots of unproven depth. Emmett Morehead will lead the team this season, but I will not be shocked if Coach Hafley gives other guys like Thomas Castellanos a shot this year. Next up is the Clemson QB room.
