The season is fast approaching and will be here in a little over two months. We have gotten a good look at teams during spring and can now start comparing and contrasting these teams. Let’s take a look at my power rankings for the Big 12 heading into 2023.
1. Texas
I have Texas on top of the Big 12 to start the season. I like Quinn Ewers and that roster is loaded with talent. They added AD Mitchell to an already talented WR room, so I think their offense will be very productive in 2023. They have to get over the hump and I don’t see a better season to do it than this one. We’ll see if they can gain some momentum before they head to the SEC with Oklahoma in 2024.

2. Kansas State
K-State is the reigning Big 12 champs and will look to repeat in 2023. I like their team and expect them to bounce back after their loss to Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. They will have to replace star running back Deuce Vaughn, but I believe quarterback Will Howard can take on more of the offensive load and lead the Wildcats to a very successful season again this season.

3. TCU
TCU is obviously coming off one of their best seasons in program history when they made the national championship game. I think they’ll be good, but I do see them taking a step back in 2023. They have to replace their starting quarterback, running back, and wide receiver, as well as their offensive coordinator, Garrett Riley. It’s almost impossible for them to live up to last season, but they will try. A few bounces go their way and they could be right back in the Big 12 championship again this year.

4. Oklahoma
The Sooners could easily be number one on this list by the end of the season, but based on last year, I have to have them a little further down. They still have the talent to win and I do still have faith in Brent Venables. A lot of people are writing him off after just one year in charge and that’s unfair. He could very well help Oklahoma lift a Big 12 Championship in their last season in the conference.

5. Kansas
I think Kansas has one of the best coaches in college football. Lance Leipold has proven he can win at every stop he has made. He brought Kansas to a bowl game last year, which is something they hadn’t done in over a decade. QB Jalon Daniels is also another reason I’m high on the Jayhawks. He had an incredible season before getting injured and then came back and had another great game in their bowl game. Kansas made a few good additions through the portal and I see them building off last season.
