The season is fast approaching and will be here in a little over two months. We have gotten a good look at teams during spring and can now start comparing and contrasting these teams. Let’s take a look at my power rankings for the SEC heading into 2023.
1. Georgia
The back-to-back defending champions come in at number one in my power rankings. Kirby Smart has set a new standard in college football. Until they lose, Georgia will continue to be number one. There are a lot of good teams that can challenge them, with a few being in this conference. We’ll see what happens in that Tennessee game and who Georgia might play in the SEC Championship if they can get there.

2. LSU
LSU was very similar to Tennessee last year. They came out of nowhere to beat Alabama and make the SEC Championship. Jayden Daniels returning under center for them is huge and he should be the key reason for their success this season. I have them slightly ahead of Alabama right now due to the quarterback situation.

3. Alabama
Alabama is in a weird spot right now. They lost two games last year, lost a lot of talent in crucial positions to the draft, and don’t seem to have a quarterback on their roster that they trust yet. But, they did just sign the best recruiting class ever and have Nick Saban as their coach. I am really torn on this team. I don’t see the talent at receiver and defense that I am used to, and the quarterback situation is very worrisome. They had to go get Tyler Buchner after seeing the other two in spring. And Buchner was no stud at Notre Dame. I am very, very interested to see how this Crimson Tide team looks in 2023.

4. Tennessee
The Vols took everyone by surprise last season. They showcased their high-powered offense and Josh Heupel became the first Tennessee coach to beat Alabama since 2006. Joe Milton will look to fill Hendon Hooker‘s shoes and he looks to be able to. He went crazy vs Clemson in the Orange Bowl last season. I have faith that they can be good again and that the November game vs Georgia will be crucial.

5. Ole Miss
I think I could have put South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, or A&M here. Any of them could be the fifth-best team. I think there is a drop-off after the top four. Ole Miss returns Jaxson Dart and even added Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders to their QB room. They had one of the best freshmen in the country in their running back Quinshon Judkins. I like this team and see them easily finishing the top half of the SEC.
