Spring Transfer Portal: Top 5 PAC-12 Additions

While the spring portal window may not have been as chaotic as the winter edition, plenty of important moves were made. Here are five important moves made in the PAC-12:

DT Bear Alexander (Georgia to USC)

The skinny: USC continued to overhaul their defense during this transfer portal cycle with the addition of Alexander. He flashed his star potential during his limited time on the field during his true freshman season in Athens and will now work to take the next step in Los Angeles. With so many new faces on the defensive side of the ball, playing time will be very much up for grabs at most positions during summer camp, which will give Alexander more than enough opportunity to establish himself before the season begins.

Tre’Quon Fegans (Alabama to USC)

The skinny: After spending only one season at Alabama, Fegans decided that he needed a change of scenery. Not surprisingly, the four-star high school recruit had no problem finding a new home, with USC eventually beating out Arizona, UCF and Georgia Tech. While the cornerback position is talented in Los Angeles, there is an immediate opportunity for Fegans to win a job on the two-deep. Two other benefits of this addition are that he has four years of eligibility remaining, plus his younger brother, four-star safety Anquan Fegans, quickly followed him with a commitment to the Trojans.

Alton McCaskill (Houston to Colorado)

The skinny: Upon officially entering the portal, Colorado almost immediately became the hot name associated with McCaskill. While it took a little longer than some expected, the commitment became a reality after he took an official visit to Boulder. McCaskill is an interesting case, as he missed the entire 2022 season with an injury after being one of the top true freshman running backs in the country in 2021. Now he joins a talented group of backs at Colorado, but if he can regain his 2021 form for the Buffaloes his performance will go a long in determining the level of success the offense enjoys this fall.

Nov 6, 2021; Tampa, Florida, USA; Houston Cougars running back Alton McCaskill (22) runs with the ball during the second half against the South Florida Bulls at Raymond James Stadium.

Emmanuel Pregnon (Wyoming to USC)

The skinny: USC has been no stranger to the transfer portal since the arrival of head coach Lincoln Riley. And after the conclusion of the 2022 season, they specifically made the offensive line a priority. That priority was answered with the addition of Pregnon, one of the most coveted players during the spring window. Having started all 11 games as a redshirt freshman at right guard during the 2022 season, he only allowed two sacks. While still raw, he will be immediately plugged into the Trojans’ starting interior offensive line in the hopes of solidifying a unit that needed an overhaul.

Jordyn Tyson (Colorado to Arizona State)

The skinny: The Colorado offense did not have much to get excited about in 2022, but one player who got the fans excited was Tyson. So, when he entered the portal amidst the mass exodus in Boulder, he had plenty of options to choose from. His decision to remain in the PAC-12 at Arizona State will give him the opportunity to play against the Buffaloes while joining a strong group that return their top three receivers from last season. While there will be plenty of competition for playing time in Tempe at the receiver position, Tyson can also make his mark on special teams, where he proved to be potent last season with a punt return for a touchdown.

Nov 5, 2022; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (4) carries the ball for a touchdown past Oregon Ducks defensive back Steve Stephens IV (7) the second quarter at Folsom Field
