Which teams will jump to double-digit wins this fall? Let’s take a look at the top five contenders.

1. Texas Tech

Dec 28, 2022; Houston, Texas, USA; Texas Tech Red Raiders running back Tahj Brooks (28) runs with the ball as Mississippi Rebels cornerback Miles Battle (6) defends during the first quarter in the 2022 Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium.

2. South Carolina

South Carolina Gamecocks wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr. (3) rushes for yards against Notre Dame Fighting Irish cornerback TaRiq Bracy (28) during the first quarter of the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl of an NCAA college football game Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish held off the South Carolina Gamecocks 45-38.

3. Texas

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Xavier Worthy (8) carries the ball during the Texas Longhorns football game against the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022.

4. Arkansas

Dec 28, 2022; Memphis, TN, USA; Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman and quarterback KJ Jefferson call the hogs after defeating the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2022 Liberty Bowl at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Arkansas won 55-53.

5. Notre Dame

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman (10) warms up during the Notre Dame Blue-Gold Spring Football game on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.

Breakdown:

Texas Tech has a real chance to contend for the Big 12 title, and Texas is on this list because of the immense talent they have on offense. In the SEC, I like the Gamecocks to potentially make a push based on the momentum and belief instilled from the end of last season, and I love what Arkansas has coming back despite being in the division with Alabama and LSU. For Notre Dame, Sam Hartman will improve the offense, but that schedule is sneaky tough, so a jump to 10 from 9 is hard.
