In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Recent offers change Gatlin Bair’s top five.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Alabama and Georgia are major offers, but I don’t think it changes much for the Idaho 4-star speedster. His top five are Nebraska, Oregon, Michigan, TCU, and Boise State, and he’s built great relationships with those programs. With a summer commitment coming, I don’t think late offers even from the Tide and Dawgs will change his list.

2. Miami takes over the lead for DT Justin Scott.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I know many think the Canes now lead for the Illinois 5-star after an amazing visit, but I still think Notre Dame has the edge for a couple of reasons. Location is key for the family, and academics are huge. Georgia is in the mix as well, and Miami did a great job here coming from outside to push to the lead group. But this is a family decision, and I still think ND has the family edge.

3. QB Michael Van Buren is now an Oregon lean.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Penn State was long the leader here, but as we’ve seen with Dan Lanning at Oregon, he can never be counted out. Penn State has the geographical edge for the Maryland QB, but Oregon has NIL and flash as they have become a hot team in recruiting for many reasons. If he picks soon, it will be the Ducks.
