The Best Tight End Values from the 2023 Draft

Michael Mayer, Sam LaPorta, and the other best tight end values from the draft

It’s not always the biggest names that are key to the NFL Draft. There’s a thing called value, and here are some valuable picks at positions. Here are the top five tight end values.

1. Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

— I love this value in round two as I think LaPorta could be the best Iowa TE star and this is a big position of need.

Mar 4, 2023; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Iowa tight end Sam Laporta (TE07) participates in drills at Lucas Oil Stadium.

2. Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders

— Mayer fell in the draft due to a lack of overall athleticism. I don’t care. He’s a great in-line blocker, he sits down well in the zone, and he is a red zone threat.

Nov 26, 2022; Los Angeles, California, USA; Notre Dame Fighting Irish tight end Michael Mayer (87) scores a touchdown against Southern California Trojans defensive back Max Williams (4) during the first half at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

3. Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

— The Penn State standout is going to be a big target for Trevor Lawrence and more of an in-line compliment to the WR ability of Evan Engram.

Penn State’s Brenton Strange (86) celebrates a first down during the second half of the Indiana versus Penn State football game at Memorial Stadium on Satruday, Nov. 5, 2022.

4. Darnell Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers

— He has a legit chance to be one of the best weapons in all of the NFL. We have never seen a tight end with this size, blocking ability and athleticism.

Mar 4, 2023; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Georgia tight end Darnell Washington (TE17) participates in drills at Lucas Oil Stadium.

5. Zack Kuntz, New York Jets

— He was a big recruit out of HS and has the ability to stretch the field, and the former Penn State transfer could be great with Aaron Rodgers.

Mar 4, 2023; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Old Dominion tight end Zack Kuntz (TE06) participates in drills at Lucas Oil Stadium.
