Teams Who Need Bounce Back Seasons: ACC

Luke Brumm dives into the ACC teams who need a good bounce back season next year.

None of these teams had stellar 2021 campaigns, but they definitely did worse in 2022. They were all at least bowl eligible in 2021. All the ACC teams that did good in 2021 seemed to do good in 2022 as well. Let’s look at the three teams that need to bounce back in the ACC.

Miami

The Hurricanes seem to have been trying to be good again forever. They had that 10-3 season back in 2017, but haven’t had one since then, and hadn’t had one before that since 2003. That was the year before they joined the ACC. That’s one ten-win season in 19 seasons. Mario Cristobal has been doing great in recruiting, but it has to translate to the field. South Florida is obviously a hotbed for recruits, so getting talent shouldn’t be a problem, they just now need to be properly coached and developed and The U could become a problem again.

Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech had a really nice stretch from 1995 through 2011, but it has been rough since. In that 17-year stretch, the Hokies won at least ten games 13 times. In the eleven years since they have had one ten-win season. It just hasn’t been the same since legendary, long-time, head coach, Frank Beamer retired. Brent Pry just went 3-8 in his first season at the helm, so let’s see if he is the one that can bring Virginia Tech back.

Boston College

Boston College went 6-6 in 2021 and then dropped to 3-9 in 2022. This was a disappointment for a BC team who had some confidence in their team heading into the season. Head Coach Jeff Hafley is entering his fourth season and needs to turn this thing around. It feels like it’s been forever since Boston College was relevant in the sport of college football, and they really haven’t since the Matt Ryan days. I want to see football be a big deal in Boston and I want Boston College relevant again.
