G-Day 2023 just wrapped up this past weekend and we’re going to take a quick look at what we knew already, what we learned, and what we have yet to learn with this team.

Georgia QB Carson Beck.

What We Knew

Georgia has a lot of talent. They have obviously been recruiting very well. They have spent more money on recruiting than any other team in the SEC, and that has shown. According to 247 Sports, they had the number three class in 2017, number one class in 2018, number two class in 2019, number one class in 2020, number three class in 2021 and 2022, number two class in 2023, and currently have the number two class in 2024 and number one class in 2025. They have had a top-three class every year since Kirby Smart started recruiting there. I’ll give him a pass in 2016 because those were mainly Mark Richt‘s recruits. Even then, they still had the number eight class. They look to be in good hands again with freshmen Raylen Wilson and Joel Aguero, among others.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart.

What We Learned

Carson Beck looks like QB1 in Athens and the O-Line looks very strong. Carson Beck went 18 for 22 with 231 passing yards and a touchdown. He looked more poised than Brock Vandagriff and more accurate too. He’s waited patiently and I believe his time has come. The starting offensive line looked good and gave the quarterbacks plenty of time all game.

After yesterday’s performance it’s pretty obvious QB1 in Athens this upcoming season will be Carson Beck, while you can only take so much from a spring game Beck showed all the traits you look for.

What We Still Need To Know

Who will step up on defense? I have confidence that many players will step up and keep up the dominance this Georgia defense has shown the past two seasons, I just don’t know who exactly. How big of an impact will true freshmen have in the defensive rotation? These are questions that will be answered once fall camp and regular season games start.
