Portal Fact or Fiction: Bear Alexander Heading Home, Trill Carter, Oregon Departures

In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Bear Alexander heads back to Texas.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

He’s going to USC, folks. The former 5-star DT has big NIL plans that involve USC and NIL, so despite some homesickness, he won’t be back in the state of Texas playing for the Longhorns or the Aggies. Chalk up another massive win for USC and Lincoln Riley, barring a stunner.

2. Trill Carter is better than Bear Alexander.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

But Texas is getting a solid DT here as Ohio State, Arkansas, and others wanted the 6-2, 300-pounder badly. He’s a great depth addition and could be starter with the loss of Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo, as Carter has a ton of experience from his days at Minnesota. At worst, he’s rotational. It’s not big Bear, but it’s not bad.

3. Oregon fans should be worried.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nah. Dan Lanning inherited this team, and it has some good players, but he’s also pushing some on defense out of the nest, so to speak. Fans will worry about the loss of guys like Jalil Carter and Keith Brown, as they were highly-ranked recruits, but I’ve learned to listen to Lanning when it comes to player evals, and I don’t think he’s too worried.
