In an exciting new feature on the site I take a dive into whether a disappointment (player, coach, team, whatever) is FAULT or FLUKE You’ll figure it out.
Louisville’s up-and-down play.
FAULT
The talent has been there but now with a better head coach in Jeff Brohm, we will finally see more consistency from the Cardinals. Two 8-5 seasons bookend a 4-7 COVID year and a 6-7 2021 season. Louisville hasn’t been good since Lamar Jackson but there has been a lot of roster talent so the fault lies with Scott Satterfield and things will change with Brohm.

Michigan’s average 2023 recruiting class
FAULT
2024 is off to a great start for Jim Harbaugh, but 2023 was a down year. Of course, recruiting rankings are subjective, but they whiffed on many key players (Dante Moore, etc.) because Harbaugh interviewed for the Minnesota Vikings job on Signing Day in 2022. While he was the subject of rumors and took a call from the Denver Broncos this last go around, it wasn’t as serious, and a second playoff appearance helped appease worries. But 2023 is on him.

Spencer Sanders regression
FLUKE
I like Mike Gundy and think he’s an amazing coach, but what I saw on offense last year puzzled me. Sanders didn’t play well by his standards, but he also wasn’t put in the best position many times. Play calling was suspect, he forced things too often many times because of poor down and distance coaching, and he lost confidence. He may not be the man at Ole Miss, but if he is, you can bet Lane Kiffin will put him in much better situations to succeed.
