Rising Stars: Carter Jones and his rising recruitment

Crean Lutheran standout Carter Jones shares his thoughts on football and his growing recruitment

2025 LB Carter Jones has been receiving more and more attention over the past couple of weeks. The Crean Lutheran standout holds multiple P5 offers, including the likes of Florida State, LSU, and as of last week, Oklahoma. Football runs in the family for Jones, as his grandfather played under prestigious former head coach Bear Bryant. Jones’s grandfather was a massive influence in getting him on the football field. “Although my grandpa played baseball, he always told me stories about how he played for Bear Bryant. My dad also played D1 college football.“

Jones also appreciates the toughness and demanding nature of football. “It’s a mental and physical game. You have to be one step ahead, and I like that mentality.”

The Irvine, California standout racked up 92 total tackles, as well as two sacks and an interception in 2022 as a sophomore. He looks to take that a step further in 2023, and really separate himself from the pack. Jones plays with ferocity and is flying to the football on seemingly every play. He dissects plays quickly and doesn’t hesitate to meet the ball carrier in the hole. He’s a smart player, with the heart of a lion. He has a lot of upside, and if he can get a bit bigger in the coming years, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

#BOOMERSOONER I will be heading up to Oklahoma on March 25. Can’t wait to see what this is about! @JayValai @CoachVenables @CoachTedRoof @OU_Football @GregBiggins @adamgorney @MohrRecruiting @DemetricDWarren @coachcurtis7 @CreanFootball @bnealy6 @CLHS_Athletics @CoachByzoo pic.twitter.com/vJtLZTFkCS

Carter also plays baseball for Crean Lutheran, and that was a big reason why he decided to transfer from Santa Margarita, saying that you can play two sports at Santa Margarita, but he felt like he had a difficult time doing so. He hasn’t quite been able to get on the baseball field for Crean Lutheran this season, as he is currently rehabbing a shoulder injury. Once he’s ready to go, he’ll be playing first and third base for the Saints this spring.

After a great conversation with @KennyDillingham @CoachBBaldwin and @CoachCoop84 I’m blessed to receive an offer from Arizona State University #ForksUp #PT42 @ASUFootball @CoachTuitele @MohrRecruiting @adamgorney @DemetricDWarren @coachcurtis7 @CreanFootball pic.twitter.com/efC6B0bT2g

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

Jones has recently visited both Arizona State and Colorado State, and he had high praise for both schools, saying that he loved the facilities, as well as the coaching staff. He plans to take several visits this spring, including trips to Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Florida State, and Ohio State. His recruitment is only just beginning to take off, but he’ll be a guy to watch as time goes on.
