Overview
After Brian Kelly’s first year as head coach of the LSU Tigers, he has some momentum heading into the offseason, and he was able to capitalize off that with 36 total commitments. Of that large group, 25 of them are high school recruits, which allows them to lay a foundation and begin to develop the future of the program, and 11 of the commits are transfers who can come in and compete to have an immediate impact. Expectations will be high this year after having a surprisingly good first season with Brian Kelly at the helm, but those expectations will be attainable if this class lives up to its potential.
Most Underrated
A late flip for the early signing day period was Ka’Morreun Pimpton, who is a tight end out of Fort Worth, Texas. He was committed to Vanderbilt since the summer leading up to signing day, but as his season progressed, it was quickly discovered that he has the makings of the new age tight ends.
Scouting Report
Aligns split out wide and inline while being able to release to run routes from each. The 6’6 Pimpton is a big target for quarterbacks due to his length and ability to elevate and adjust to passes outside his framework and catch with strong hands. Used as a mismatch on the outside vs. smaller defenders due to his ability to win 50-50 balls. Willing blocker, but he will need to continue to refine his technique. Very good frame that is in a moldable state which is great for the strength and conditioning staff at LSU. It will take some time before he is ready to have a significant impact on the field, but once he is ready, the conference will be put on notice.

Best Get
One of the most sought-after defensive linemen in the entire 2023 class, Da’Shawn Womack is the highest-ranked recruit that LSU was able to secure. Womack went to a well-known program, Saint Frances Academy, in Baltimore, Maryland, where he routinely delivered against top-level competition. There, he developed into an elite pass rusher that displays an elite frame to mold along with very good arm length.
Scouting Report
Aligns in a three-stance and stand up off the edge. Utilizes very good initial quickness and first step to gain an advantage over Tackles when rushing the passer. His athleticism allows him to have an impact all over the field and close on ball carriers from behind. Once he gets his hands on the ball carrier, he can consistently finish through his play strength and violence. With how good he is at getting past blockers, he shows raw technique when maintaining engagements when having to play down the LOS during run plays. Nothing that can’t be coached up, especially with the high level of coaching he will get at LSU.

Best Out of State Addition
The phrase DBU has been thrown around a lot at LSU, but they have been worthy of that title with the level of NFL talent they have recently produced in their secondary, and they look to continue to add to it with Javien Toviano. Javien is from Arlington, Texas, and is looking to bet on himself, leaving the state of Texas to be developed by the best.
Scouting Report
Displays a very good frame and length with broad shoulders. Shows good foot quickness, which allows him to mirror receivers’ routes. Keeping receivers in front of him, he uses his good burst to break downhill and close on them or the ball. Not only does he thrive with his athleticism, but also shows good instincts, allowing him to play with good positioning to break up a pass or create a turnover. Once he is able to open up his stride, he displays very good top-end speed, making it difficult to beat him deep. His willingness to come up and hit the ball carrier is also a major plus that not many DBs do. Will be someone who shouldn’t have to wait long to get serious reps.

Best In-State Addition
Sticking to its roots has done LSU well throughout history, and with the signing of Zalance Heard, that trend looks to continue. Zalance is from Monroe, Louisiana, and displays an elite frame and length with broad shoulders.
Scouting Report
Shows good initial quickness off the ball and can drop his pad level to improve his leverage to contribute to his good play strength when in engagements. From start to finish of an engagement, he displays solid use of hands and violence, allowing him to win consistently. He is light on his feet and is able to pull to the second level and take a good angle to take his blocking assignment out of the play. While he needs to improve his hand usage if he wants to sustain blocks at the next level, there is no concern that he will not figure it out once he gets on campus and is coached up. He has everything people look for in a tackle, so once he refines his technique, he will be a force on the offensive line.
