Draft Fact or Fiction: Will Levis, Anthony Richardson, Deepest Position in the Draft

In today’s Fact or Fiction — NFL Draft edition — I look at three big recent topics around the NFL Draft and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Will Levis should be considered a first round talent.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I still don’t get it. He has the measurables and arm and all that, but what the heck? Some have Indianapolis trading up to No. 1 overall with the Bears to take him. What? Nothing is a sure thing when it comes to QBs but I do know a high risk when I see one and this is just odd. Why is everyone ignoring double digit interceptions in each of the last two years and not putting in one simple game film against Vanderbilt or Tennessee from this past season and seeing what I see? A mid rounder with an elite arm.

Tennessee defensive lineman/linebacker Byron Young (6) sacks Kentucky quarterback Will Levis during Tennessee’s game against Kentucky at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022.

2. The Cam Newton comps for Anthony Richardson are accurate.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nah, Cam was better. Much better. Richardson is big and he is mobile so I see that physical comp, but Newton was a much better runner and harder to bring down, and even with his accuracy issues, he was a more accomplished passer from the pocket. Richardson is projected top 10 and this puzzles me as well. He’s more like Trey Lance but not as accurate or as good with decision making coming out of college. And Lance is already a bust.

Nov 5, 2022; College Station, Texas, USA; Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson (15) throws a pass in front of Texas A&M Aggies defensive lineman Shemar Turner (5) in the second half at Kyle Field.

3. CB is the deepest position in the draft.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I love this cornerback class of depth purposes. The first round has as many as five led by Illinois standout Devon Witherspoon and followed by Cam Smith (South Carolina) Kelee Ringo (Georgia) Joey Porter Jr. (Penn State), Christian Gonzalez (Oregon) and one of the guys I think could be the steal of the draft in Clark Phillips III (Utah). But there is also depth as you could land Elias Ricks (Alabama) or Garrett Williams (Syracuse) anywhere from round 2-3. This is the deepest position in the entire draft and we will see a ton of value in the middle rounds as well.

Oct 1, 2022; Madison, Wisconsin, USA; Illinois Fighting Illini defensive back Devon Witherspoon (31) breaks up the pass during the first quarter against the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium.
