The first portal window is over, and the next one isn’t until April 15. I’ll begin a team breakdown with the best from the SEC so far.

1. LSU

— Brian Kelly is at it again with a stellar group of players coming in to make an impact. The addition of EDGE Omar Speight from Oregon State adds to a defense that will also boast CB Denver Harris from Texas A&M and Duce Chestnut from Syracuse.

Sep 3, 2022; College Station, Texas, USA; Texas A&M Aggies defensive back Denver Harris (2) upends Sam Houston State Bearkats wide receiver Ife Adeyi (2) during the first quarter at Kyle Field.

2. Ole Miss

– The late push from Lane Kiffin gives the Rebels the edge over Auburn here. QBs rule the world and the addition of Spencer Sanders from Oklahoma State and Walker Howard from LSU make sure they will have depth and talent. And WR Chris Marshall from Texas A&M could be a star.

Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders (3) looks to throw a pass in the first half during the Bedlam college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys (OSU) at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Nov., 19, 2022.

3. Auburn

— Hugh Freeze did a great job especially in the trenches led by DT Justin Rogers from Kentucky and OC Avery Jones from East Carolina. OT Dillon Wade from Tulsa is a name to remember as well.

Kentucky’s Justin Rogers goes for the fumble against South Carolina. Oct. 8, 2022

4. Kentucky

— It’s a smaller class so many feel I overrate it but QB Devin Leary from NC State has a chance to change everything. And CB JQ Hardaway from Cincinnati and DL Keeshawn Silver from UNC have a chance to be great.

Sep 17, 2022; Raleigh, North Carolina, USA; North Carolina State Wolfpack quarterback Devin Leary (13) looks to pass during the first half against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Carter-Finley Stadium.

5. Tennessee

— The Vols biggest addition is WR Dont’e Thornton from Oregon but it’s the defensive additions like CB Gabe Jeudy-Lally and LB Keenan Pili from BYU that excite me.

Oregon’s Dont’e Thornton, right, pulls down a Bi Nix pass for a touchdown during the third quarter against Washington Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.
