Keep checking back for more scouting reports as more portal prospects find new homes.

Cam McCormick – TE

2022 Team: Oregon

2023 Team: Miami

Good size at 6’5, 260 lbs. Strong player with broad shoulders and a built lower body. Stays within his legs, blocking with good bend in knees and hips. Physical player who anchors against the rush well, able to secure one on one blocks with defensive ends. Very good use of aggressive hands and arm length to create pushback on the defense at the point of contact. Moves well both laterally and downfield when securing second-level blocks. Strong hands and moves with good speed upfield after the catch. Able to remain balanced to pick up yards after contact.

McCormick was used primarily as a blocking tight end for Oregon. His overall athleticism coupled with very good strength makes him a very good blocker. He creates good leverage by staying low and exploding his hips, and he slides from block to block seamlessly. He is able to engage and secure open field blocks downfield as well as pick up the rush in the backfield. In his limited receiving opportunities, McCormick also flashed solid pass-catching abilities. Committed to Miami, McCormick will likely continue to have a big impact as a blocker there. He played seven seasons with the Ducks and still has two years of eligibility remaining due to injuries and Covid-19. His high experience level will enable him to immediately start for the Hurricanes.

Donovan Ollie – WR

2022 Team: Washington State

2023 Team: Cincinnati

Very good size at 6’3, 212 lbs. Solid release off the line of scrimmage into the stem of his routes. Long strides with adequate speed. Adequate change of direction and cutting abilities when breaking in his routes. Good awareness to find soft spots in the defense to provide an easy target for his QB. Very good and big hands, has the ability to go up and pluck the ball out of the air with ease. Solid burst upfield after the catch and very good physicality with the ball. Lowers his shoulder through contact to pick up extra yards. Good body control and athleticism to maintain his balance when shaking off defenders, often requiring multiple guys to bring him down.

Ollie is a natural hands-catcher, tracking the ball and hauling in catches with ease. He can win vertically and has strong enough hands to bring in contested passes. His size and physicality also make him a more impactful blocker with the right coaching. Ollie isn’t a receiver who will burn the defense on a deep ball with speed, but his height, strength, hands, and field awareness enable him to consistently be a solid target in shorter yardage or red zone situations. Committed to Cincinnati, Ollie will likely start or be the next guy up for the Bearcats next season at the receiver position.

Ja’Had Carter – SAF

2022 Team: Syracuse

2023 Team: Ohio State

Elite size at 6’2, 198 lbs. Plays long with very good speed. Able to cover grass efficiently and play sideline to sideline with good deep speed. Keeps low and balanced with very good body control and change of direction abilities. Good hip control, able to flip hips and pedal well while transitioning in coverage – able to win in man-to-man situations. Very good football vision and ability to read the quarterback in passing downs. Reacts quickly and closes on the play. Able to plant and drive to strain to the ball.

Since the beginning, Carter had been an impact player for Syracuse as he started 10 games at safety in his true freshman year. This past year as a sophomore, he continued to make things happen for the Orange. He flashed his ball skills and ability to make plays in the air as he led the team with three interceptions. Carter is nearly the complete package, perhaps only needing to improve his physicality in tackling so he can more consistently bring down the ball carrier in open-field situations. However, he still has all the makings and experience as a three-year starter to be an immediate contributor for Ohio State University where he has committed. His size, speed, and reading skills made Carter one of the top safeties in the portal and will make the Buckeyes’ defensive lineup even better next season.

Bhayshul Tuten – RB

2022 Team: North Carolina A&T

2023 Team: Virginia Tech

Solid size at 5’11, 195lbs. Very naturally talented running back. Very good initial quickness and ability to get to top acceleration in a hurry. Has elite downhill speed and burst through the hole. Twitchy and very good elusiveness as he has good change of direction and is light on his feet to make defenders miss while sliding laterally. Plays physical, pushing through defenders and refusing to shy away from contact. Has good hands and tracking abilities, making him a real threat in the passing game as well. He drives his lower body through tackles, has the body control to handle contact, and is explosive in the open field.

Tuten was a major contributor to North Carolina A&T last season, totaling 17 touchdowns on 208 rushing attempts and 31 receptions. He consistently flashed his home run ability, using his twitchy run style and speed to create big plays every time he touched the ball. He was an adequate blocker last season, but will likely need to polish up his blocking skills to keep up with Power 5 competition if he wants to be a three-down back for Virginia Tech next season. Regardless, though, Virginia Tech added a dynamic running back to their team by acquiring Tuten. A tremendous athlete, speedster, and competitor, Tuten has what it takes to do great things with the Hokies if given the chance.
