Prospects in the News

–Warren Roberson, 2023 S, Red Oak, Texas (Red Oak HS), #258 nationally, #22 safety, and #47 in TX

Four-star Red Oak (TX.) safety Warren Roberson flipped to the Texas Longhorns from the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday morning. He had been committed to TCU since October 31st, choosing them over the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the USC Trojans. Roberson is rated the No. 22 safety in the class and the No. 47 player in Texas. He became the second safety in the Longhorns class that finished third in the final 2023 rankings, behind only the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs.

–Duce Robinson, 2023 TE, Phoenix, Arizona (Pinnacle HS), #17 nationally, #1 tight end, and #1 in AZ

Five-star Phoenix (AZ) tight end Duce Robinson did not commit and sign a National Letter of Intent on National Signing Day. He is a top Major League Baseball prospect and plans to announce where he will go to school here soon. He is the No. 1 tight end in his class and the No. 1 player in Arizona. Robinson’s top schools are the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and USC Trojans. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the national champion Bulldogs as the favorites to land him with a 67% chance. However, the Longhorns could be the team here, especially if he wants to play in college baseball, as Texas is one of the premier college baseball teams in the country.

–Camden Hardy, 2024 EDGE, Jacksonville, Florida (Atlantic Coast HS), #549 nationally, #26 edge, and #91 in FL

Camden Hardy committed to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Tuesday afternoon, choosing them over offers from the Duke Blue Devils and Illinois Fighting Illini, among others. He is rated the No. 26 edge in his class and is the No. 91 player in Florida. He is the son of former Illini Consensus All-American linebacker and former Butkus Award winner Kevin Hardy. Camden Hardy becomes the third and highest-rated recruit in the Demon Deacons class, currently ranked No. 36 overall and sixth in the ACC.

–Nigel Smith II, DL, Melissa, Texas (Melissa HS), #36 nationally, #6 defensive lineman, and #5 in TX

Four-star Melissa (TX.) defensive lineman Nigel Smith II named his top 16 schools on Tuesday night. Those schools are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Prairie View A&M Panthers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. Smith is rated the No. 6 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 5 player in Texas, with over 30 offers. However, Smith was in Norman on January 28 for the Sooners Junior Day, and the On3 RPM has them as the favorites to land him, with a 76% chance. Oklahoma is the team to beat right now.

–Alex Taylor, 2024 WR, Greensboro, North Carolina (Grimsley HS), #293 nationally, #41 wide receiver, and #7 in NC

Four-star Greensboro (NC.) wide receiver Alex Taylor named his top seven schools last week. Those schools were the Cincinnati Bearcats, Clemson Tigers, NC State Wolfpack, North Carolina Tar Heels, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers, and Virginia Tech Hokies. However, Clemson is now leading the way for him. He is rated the No. 41 wide receiver in his class and is the No. 7 player in North Carolina. Taylor was in Death Valley for Clemson’s Junior Day on January 28 and was impressed. He said, “Every time I come to Clemson, it just makes me wanna come back more. “The vibe there is unmatched, and it feels like home…I have a lot of interest in Clemson. I can see myself playing there.” However, the On3 RPM has the Wolfpack as the current leader to land him, with a 42% chance of doing so. The Tigers are at 13%. Despite that prediction, I like Clemson here.
