2025 DL Xavier Ukponu was a rock on the defensive line for Denton Guyer this past season. The 6-3, 275-pounder has been receiving a lot of attention over the past few weeks, receiving offers from big-time programs such as Oklahoma, Texas, and Miami. His most recent offer came just three days ago from Texas A&M after he attended a junior day at College Station.

“What I loved most about A&M was how they showed they cared about their players, especially in life after football… I love how they emphasize versatility on their defensive line, and how you can line up anywhere and improve your value as a player. Coach Price was a really nice, genuine coach. He treated me and my family really good and offered me on the junior day. It was a great experience, and I’ll definitely be down to College Station again.”

Xavier was also extremely impressed with the University of Texas. He received an offer from the Longhorns a few weeks ago when attended a junior day in Austin. He was really impressed with the atmosphere and has already begun to build relationships with some of the Texas coaching staff.

“Coach Bo made a really great first impression on me. I love how he kind of believes in the old-school way of playing D-line. He isn’t fancy, he just wants you to play the right way. He’s what really stood out to me on the visit.”

It’s still very early in the process, but the schools that have stood out the most to Ukponu so far are both the Longhorns and the Aggies. He really loved the visits he took to those schools, and as of February 1st, those are the teams to beat. However, he has yet to visit Oklahoma and Miami but says that he plans to visit both schools over the spring. He has received interest from some other schools like Michigan State, Baylor, and Houston. He tells me that he plans to attend some junior camps in and around Texas over the coming months.

As of now, I like the Aggies, but as I said before, it is still extremely early in the cycle, being nearly two years until early NSD for the 2025 class. A lot can change from now until then, but keep an eye out on how this unfolds, and what other schools decide to enter the fray for his commitment.
