Fact or Fiction: Next Miami OC, Jeremy Pruitt, Who Replaces Bill O’Brien

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction, he determines if Scott Frost will be the next offensive coordinator…

In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Miami should hire Scott Frost as their OC.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

This has some legs but to me it’s dumb. Mario Cristobal got rid of Josh Gattis quite honestly because his lack of recent success on offense was going to hurt recruiting and already hurt the ability to lure some elite WRs that they struck out on. So why replace him with the disgraced Nebraska head coach who couldn’t put together any sort of offense in the Big Ten? If I was an opposing team I’d use this as negative recruiting fodder over and over again. It would not be a smart hire.

2. Jeremy Pruitt’s return would be a black eye for the SEC

Farrell’s take: FACT

Ok enough is enough. I know Nick Saban likely won’t hire Pruitt because of his baggage from his time cheating at Tennessee but if he somehow tried to make him his next Defensive Coordinator maybe this time the SEC should step in. Bobby Petrino to A&M was okay by me even though he’s an embarrassment from his time at Arkansas and Hugh Freeze to Auburn was okay by me as well since that Ole Miss investigation in regards to his NCAA violations is done. But c’mon now. Pruitt is still part of an active investigation based on cheating at Tennessee, and until that is cleared Greg Sankey should step in and say no way. You can’t enforce on one hand and reward on the other.

3. Ryan Grubb would be great as the next Alabama OC.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Who? Yep. A lot of people don’t know him but the job he did with Jake Haener at Fresno State and Michael Penix Jr. at Washington is special. He’s been as important to the success of Kalen DeBoer as anyone and Nick Saban is no dummy. This guy would be great with this level of talent.
