In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Jake Garcia starts at Missouri.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I don’t see it. To me Sam Horn steps up and wins this job. He wasn’t ready last season and sat and learned but he is more mobile and has a cannon of an arm so with some polish he has the upside. Brady Cook was up and down this past season and will miss the spring so Cook and Garcia will have a leg up. I’ve been told Garcia hasn’t been overly impressive during his time at Miami and his entry into the portal was expected. Time will tell.

2. Spencer Sanders waited too long to pick a school.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Sanders has been great and he’s been awful at Oklahoma State, but his decision making in the portal has been awful. First off I don’t think he should have left because he would start for the Cowboys next season with their QB situation a disaster. And I heard he had early offers from some good QB situations but waited too long and landed at Ole Miss with Walker Howard and last year’s transfer Jaxson Dart. Ole Miss is a big stage but there’s a chance he doesn’t play where and smaller opportunities or a place like Florida might have been a better fit.

3. Arik Gilbert will be successful at Nebraska.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Part of this is wishful thinking. Gilbert is an immensely talented TE as we saw out of high school and at LSU his first year but he’s had a ton of off field issues. His new home will be further away than he’s ever been (and being away from home was an issue at LSU), but Matt Rhule is an amazing coach and has a staff set who will take care of Gilbert. He won’t put up insane numbers but I think he has a solid finish to his college career in Lincoln just knowing how Rhule takes care of his players.
