In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Florida has been a loser in the portal so far.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

ESPN listed the Gators as a loser so far but I’m puzzled as the losses aren’t that bad. Losing RB Nay’Quan Wright stinks but this is a deep running back room and aside from that I don’t see a ton of awful losses. There has been a loss of depth but not many serious contributors. I’m not overly thrilled with the additions so far for the Gators but the losses don’t worry me.

2. Marshawn Lloyd will do what Travis Dye did at USC.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Travis Dye had a great season last year as a transfer in from Oregon before going down to injury. But with Raleek Brown getting more touches and Austin Jones back this is a crowded backfield unlike the unproven group heading into this past season. Lloyd is good and will get touches but I don’t see a 1,000 yard season as Dye was headed for.

Oct 22, 2022; Columbia, South Carolina, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks running back MarShawn Lloyd (1) rushes for a touchdown against the Texas A&M Aggies in the second half at Williams-Brice Stadium.

3. LSU is now No. 2 in the portal.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I love Duce Chestnut from Syracuse and this is a great get and WVU DL Jordan Jefferson is an underrated get. I have Florida State No. 1 and LSU No. 2 in my portal rankings now as the Tigers leap over Michigan.
