The 23rd All-American Bowl at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio was a runaway win by the East Team as they defeated the West Team 55-17. UCLA Bruins commit Dante Moore was the game’s MVP, as he threw for four touchdowns and 156 yards. But, of course, one of the game’s highlights is seeing the recruits announce where they will spend the next 3-4 years playing college football. So let’s see who committed and where they will be playing.

–Malik Elzy, WR, Chicago, Illinois (Simeon HS), #305 nationally, #43 wide receiver, and #4 in IL

Four-star Chicago (IL.) wide receiver Malik Elzy is staying close to home as he committed to the Illinois Fighting Illini. He had committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats in July before backing off that pledge in October. Since then, the Illini have been one of, if not the team to beat. So on Saturday, he made it official, choosing them over the Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Volunteers, and Wisconsin Badgers. He joins an Illini class ranked No. 40 overall. He is the Illini’s highest-rated in-state recruit since 2015 and is the highest-rated Illini commit out of the Chicago Public League since 2007.

–Mikal Harrison-Pilot, ATH, Temple, TX (Temple HS), #150 nationally, #8 athlete, and #31 in TX

Mikal Harrison-Pilot committed to the Houston Cougars on Saturday, choosing them over the California Golden Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas Longhorns. The four-star athlete from Temple (TX.) cited his relationship with Cougars wide receiver coach Daikiel Shorts and the fact that his father played and coached there as the reason he chose them. Harrison-Pilot now becomes the highest-rated recruit in the Cougars class.

–Jamari Johnson, ATH, Inglewood, California (Inglewood HS), #421 nationally, #26 athlete, and #39 in CA

Four-star Inglewood (CA.) athlete Jamari Johnson reaffirmed his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday. Johnson had committed to the Cardinals in April, but with a coaching change, it was thought he might back off that pledge. The Oregon Ducks got in the mix, and he did take an official visit to Eugene in December. However, Johnson, who projects to be a tight end, liked the new staff, and new head coach Jeff Brohm made it clear that he wanted him there.

–Jelani McDonald, ATH, Waco, Texas (Connally HS), #130 nationally, #6 athlete, and #26 in TX

Four-star Waco (TX.) athlete Jelani McDonald committed to the Texas Longhorns over the Oklahoma State Cowboys and TCU Horned Frogs. He had been committed to the Cowboys before backing off his pledge in October. Since then, the Longhorns had been the favorite to land him. –TJ Capers, 2024 EDGE, Miami, Florida (Columbus HS), #7 nationally, #2 edge, and #2 in FL

The Louisville Cardinals pulled off a shocker when they picked up a commitment from 2024 five-star Miami (FL.) edge TJ Capers. Capers picked them over his hometown Miami Hurricanes, Colorado Buffaloes, Georgia Bulldogs, and USC Trojans. Regarding the Cardinals, he said,

“I think Louisville is the best for me because I can get playing time early. The second thing has to be the city. They don’t have a pro team, so all of the fans are screaming ‘Go Cardinals.”

Louisville is off to a great start in the 2024 cycle.

–Peyton Woodyard, 2024 S, Bellflower, California (St. John Bosco), #29 nationally, #2 safety, and #2 in CA

Peyton Woodyard did something no underclassman had before at the All-American Game when he announced his commitment and chose the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs. Woodyard, a 2024 four-star safety from Bellflower (CA.), picked the Bulldogs over the Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and USC Trojans. Regarding the Bulldogs, he said,

“Georgia is a great university, both academically and athletically. What stands out about Georgia is its brotherhood and the closeness of the players.”

He becomes the seventh commit in the Bulldogs 2024 class, ranked first right now.
