In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Sam Hartman Puts Notre Dame in the Playoff.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
I like Hartman. From his passing ability to his rib necklace, this guy is everything you want in a college football player. And Notre Dame should be better in year two under Marcus Freeman with a very good recruiting class set to impact. But let’s be real, this isn’t close to a playoff team. They were so up and down and still lack elite playmakers on the outside on offense that Hartman will only be able to do so much to make this offense more explosive. In a day and age where you need to dominate up front running or have an unstoppable passing offense, Notre Dame is in between.

2. WR Dont’e Thornton will pick the Vols.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Thornton was linked to Penn State and others early when he entered the portal but he took his time and now is checking out Tennessee. He visited Miami and Arkansas but word has it the Vols’ offense and his fit might be too much for him to pass on. I’m hearing they will be hard to beat.

3. Trey Sanders will dominate at TCU.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
This isn’t hate. I like Sanders and appreciate all he’s overcome. But it’s so much and is he the same player? This was a top five talent out of high school who has had the following injuries — knee, hip/pelvis, head — and those are just the ones reported. He’s a strong kid and his ability to overcome injury is amazing, but there’s a reason he was RB No. 4 at ‘Bama. He’s a complimentary player and a good addition but don’t expect Zach Evans or Kendre Miller.
