Names in the News

–Gekyle Baker 2024 WR, Brownsboro, Texas (Brownsboro HS), #240 nationally, #32 wide receiver, and #40 in TX

Gekyle Baker, a 2024 four-star wide receiver from Brownsboro (TX.), was offered by the Oregon Ducks on Friday. He has nine offers which include the Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Tech Red Raiders, to name a few. However, the Longhorns are the early favorites to land him. Baker was in Austin in October for an unofficial visit when the Longhorns hosted the Iowa State Cyclones. I like the Longhorns here.

–Jonathan Daniels, 2024 OT, Pensacola, Florida (Pine Forest HS), #212 nationally, #13 offensive tackle, and #34 in FL

The Miami Hurricanes and Mario Cristobal offered four-star 2024 Pensacola (FL.) offensive tackle Jonathan Daniels, on Friday. However, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the South Florida Bulls are the leaders to land him with a 38.9% chance, followed by the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs at 34.1%. The Hurricanes are at a 2.2% chance, but I would not count them out, especially this early.

–Alex January 2024 DL, Duncanville, Texas (Duncanville HS), #476 nationally, #44 defensive lineman, and #78 in TX

The Texas Longhorns offered three-star 2024 Duncanville (TX.) defensive lineman Alex January on Friday afternoon. His father is former Longhorn linebacker Mike January. He has 13 offers, and the SMU Mustangs and TCU Horned Frogs are the top two teams to land him. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Mustangs have a 14.3% chance of landing him, while the Horned Frogs are right behind them with a 12.5% chance. The Baylor Bears are also in the mix.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

–David Stone Jr., 2024 DL, Bradenton, Florida (IMG Academy), #9 nationally, #2 defensive lineman, and #3 in FL

David Stone, a five-star defensive lineman from Florida, received an offer from Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday. However, he announced his top ten schools last week. They were the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan State Spartans, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans. Nebraska has been busy on the recruiting trail this week, offering some top recruits in the 2024 class. The Cornhuskers were not on Stone’s top ten schools, but it is too early to count them out.

–Demond Williams, 2024 QB, Chandler, Arizona (Basha HS), #228 nationally, #18 quarterback, and #4 in AZ

Four-star 2024 Chandler (AZ.) quarterback Demond Williams committed to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday night, choosing them over the Michigan State Spartans and UCLA Bruins. He was in Oxford in October when the Rebels beat the Auburn Tigers and for a junior day over the summer. Williams said Kiffin was a big reason he chose the Rebels, as well as his relationship with the co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Charlie Weiss Jr. and analyst Seth Doege. He becomes the second and highest-rated recruit in the Rebels 2024 class.
