Names in the News

–Damon Wilson, EDGE, Venice High School, Venice, Florida, #13 nationally, #2 edge, and #4 in FL

Five-star Florida edge Damon Wilson committed to the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs, choosing them over the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes, among others. Wilson took an official visit to Athens on October 7 and said,

“I enjoyed it, I had a good time with the coaches, my host, and everyone on staff.“

He adds to an already strong Bulldogs class ranked second overall, trailing only the Crimson Tide.

–Tausili Akana, EDGE, Skyridge High School, Lehigh, Utah, #102 nationally, #16 edge, and #1 in UT

Tausili Akana, a four-star edge from Utah, pulled a shocker today when he committed to the Texas Longhorns. He chose the Longhorns over the Colorado Buffaloes, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, and Utah Utes. Oklahoma was the favorite for him, so this is an excellent pickup for the Longhorns as it adds to their third-ranked class and weakens their biggest rival in the Sooners.

–Caleb Presley, CB, Rainier Beach High School, Seattle, Washington, #166 nationally, #19 cornerback, and #1 in WA

Caleb Presley flipped from the Oregon Ducks to his home state Washington Huskies. The four-star cornerback had been committed to the Ducks since July 5. Presley said he chose the Huskies because of the city and his family. Of course, a school never wants to lose a recruit, but the Ducks have had an excellent day on the recruiting trail, and they should be able to make up for losing Presley. He now joins a Washington class ranked No. 27 overall.

Four-star Florida cornerback Damari Brown committed to the Miami Hurricanes, choosing them over the Alabama Crimson Tide. He will now be teammates with his older brother Davonte Brown, who transferred to Miami from the Central Florida Knights. Brown adds to a Hurricanes class ranked fourth overall, trailing only the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, and Texas Longhorns.

Four-star Illinois cornerback Jyaire Hill committed to the Michigan Wolverines, choosing them over the Illinois Fighting Illini, Kentucky Wildcats, and Purdue Boilermakers. About Michigan, he said,

“Michigan is Mars, to sum it up, fan base is the alien population. The staff is over the top. They’re not shy at all. They know that they’re a big-time university but they put you first.”

He joins a Wolverines class ranked No. 17 overall.
