Oklahoma coach Brent Venables is seen before a Bedlam college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys (OSU) at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman
Oklahoma HC Brent Venables.

We are just beginning to see commitments for this cycle of the transfer portal and it’s evident a few teams are off to good starts. Here are my five hottest teams.

1. Oklahoma

— LB Dasan McCullough is my No. 1 commit in the portal so far and getting TE Austin Stogner back and reeling in DL Jacob Lacey from Notre Dame puts them No. 1.

Indiana’s Dasan McCullough (0) pressures Penn State’s Sean Clifford (14) during the first half of the Indiana versus Penn State football game at Memorial Stadium on Satruday, Nov. 5, 2022.

2. Florida State

— Jaheim Bell is a massive pickup for the Seminoles and DE Darrell Jackson is going to be a major help as well. And they are mentioned by so many portal recruits it’s kind of crazy.

Nov 5, 2022; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; South Carolina Gamecocks tight end Jaheim Bell (0) is hit as he tries to hurdle Vanderbilt Commodores defensive back Jaylen Mahoney (23) during the second half at FirstBank Stadium.

3. TCU

— TCU has already landed WR JoJo Earle and CB Avery Helm, and they’ve got WR Chris Marshall set to commit as well. So many others are also interested in Sonny Dykes’ program —  they are off to a nice start.

Oct 22, 2022; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs defensive back Decamerion Richardson (3) brings down Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver JoJo Earle (10) during the first half at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

4. Virginia Tech

— I’m very high on WR Ali Jennings and I think he and QB Kyron Drones will click.

Sep 10, 2022; Greenville, North Carolina, USA; Old Dominion Monarchs wide receiver Ali Jennings III (0) is congratulated by running back Blake Watson (2) after his touchdown catch East Carolina Pirates during the first half at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

5. SMU

— The Miami connection is working, obviously, getting guys like RB Jaylan Knighton, but they’ve landed players from all over and have improved their roster greatly for next season.

Oct 22, 2022; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Hurricanes running back Jaylan Knighton (4) runs with the football during the first quarter against the Duke Blue Devils at Hard Rock Stadium.
