Names in the News

–4-star S Randon Fontenette, Brazosport High School, Freeport, Texas (#321 national, #30 safety, and #56 in TX.)

Randon Fontenette will announce his commitment on December 16. He had committed to the Utah Utes on July 5, choosing them over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Vanderbilt Commodores, until he backed off his pledge on November 3. Since then, the TCU Horned Frogs have become the favorites to land him. Fontenette was in Fort Worth last weekend for an official visit. Regarding his official visit, he said,

“My trip to TCU was great. It really felt like home with the environment and the coaches and the scenery.”

TCU has a 94.6% chance of landing him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. I like the Horned Frogs too.

–4-star QB Lincoln Kienholz, T.F. Riggs High School, Pierre, South Dakota (#204 national, #14 quarterback, and #1 in SD.)

On Wednesday afternoon, Lincoln Kienholz flipped his commitment from the Washington Huskies to the Ohio State Buckeyes. He had been committed to the Huskies since June 29 before deciding to flip. Kienholz cited his relationships with the Buckeyes coaching staff, especially the closeness with quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis and head coach Ryan Day. Another reason, he said, was the Buckeye’s track record of producing top quarterbacks was a hard opportunity to pass up. He joins a Buckeye class that is fourth overall and first in the Big Ten.

–4-star QB Marcel Reed, Montgomery Bell Academy, Nashville, Tennessee (#296 national, #18 quarterback, and #6 player in TN.)

Marcel Reed is committed to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels, but he was in Auburn for an official visit with the Tigers over the weekend. This weekend he is expected to be in College Station to visit the Texas A&M Aggies. However, head coach Jimbo Fisher made a trip to Nashville to conduct a home visit with Reed on Wednesday. Reed is committed to the Rebels, but the Aggies and Tigers are hot on the trail. I like Texas A&M’s chances of flipping him.

–5-star 2024 WR Jeremiah Smith, Chaminade-Madonna Prep, Opa Locka, Florida (#2 national, #1 WR, and #1 in FL.)

Jeremiah Smith, the number one wide receiver in the 2024 class, committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday. He chose them over the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami Hurricanes, and USC Trojans. Smith said the Buckeyes were the choice because of the brotherhood environment he saw and that there was no place like it. He becomes the fourth recruit in a Buckeyes 2024 class that includes five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, the number one player, and quarterback in the class. That class is ranked No. 8 overall at this time.

–4-star EDGE Rico Walker, Hickory High School, Hickory, North Carolina (#213 national, #23 edge, and #9 in NC.)

Rico Walker committed to the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday night. He had committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels on July 18 until backing off his pledge on November 11. Walker had an official visit last weekend with the Kentucky Wildcats but decided on the Terps, which becomes a big win and addition for head coach Mike Locksley. Regarding Maryland, he said,

“The program is on the come up.”

He becomes the highest-rated player in the Terps class, which is ranked No. 44 overall and seventh in the Big Ten.
