Recruiting Fact or Fiction: Keon Keeley, Virginia Tech Momentum, Mark Fletcher

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition, he determines if Keon Keeley’s commitment to Alabama was…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics from the recruiting trail and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Keon Keeley to Alabama is a surprise.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

Nope. This is how things work usually. A player takes a visit to a different school he’s not committed to and comes back and decommits. That usually means he saw something he loved in the new school and that’s the case here. Keeley was committed to Notre Dame but visited Alabama this summer and dropped the Irish right after. Ohio State and others came after him but it’s clear Alabama showed him what he wanted to see and it’s no surprise he’s committed months later.

2. The Hokies have surprising momentum.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The Hokies had a horrible season. I mean it was really bad. But here they are as hot as anyone in the transfer portal and the prep recruiting is going fine as well. Their recent commits aside from maybe WR Ayden Greene may not be world beaters but it’s a solid sign they are closing well and adding players like WR Ali Jennings and QB Kyron Drones is a massive help. And QB Pop Watson from up here in New England is a solid flip from Nebraska as he has upside.

Powell’s Ayden Greene (11) makes the reception over Wesr’s Marshaun Bowers (13) for a first down during the TSSAA Class 5A Semifinals between West and Powell High School in Powell, Tenn. on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022.

3. Miami will close on RB Mark Fletcher.

Farrell’s take: FACT

Florida has the edge right now but Miami appears to be getting the final visit and we all know Mario Cristobal can close. Just ask the Gators about DB Cormani McClain. This recruiting battle between the schools has become intense since McClain chose the ‘Canes over Florida and then QB Jaden Rashada flipped from Miami to the Gators. But I like Miami for Fletcher.
