Now that the transfer portal has been officially opened for a few days, we have a good sense of the top-tier players on the market. Let’s take a look at the top transfers in the SEC. Keep in mind that these rankings are based on a mix of past production and potential with an emphasis on proven success in college. All referenced rankings are credited to 247sports.com.
Names in the News
5) Defensive Lineman Tunmise Adeleye, Texas A&M, 2022 4-star (#39 nationally, #9 DL)
- 2022: 6 tackles (4 solos)
Tunmise Adeleye began the year as a starter on the defensive end but saw limited action following just two matchups due to a season-ending injury. Though the defensive lineman lacks college film, his absence weakening the Aggie’s defense speaks to his talent.
Adeleye is a popular man in the portal, with nearly every major program interested. Michigan, USC, and various SEC schools have reached out in hopes, of landing the former top-50 prospect. Michigan State should be viewed as the team to beat at the moment, as he is visiting this weekend, earning his lone visit so far. However, we should keep in mind that Adeleye is a former Ohio State commit and had Florida and Alabama in his final three when he chose the Aggies.

4) Wide Receiver Dominic Lovett, Missouri, 2021 4-star (#331 nationally, #52 WR)
- 2022: 56 catches for 846 yards 3 TDs
Dominic Lovett is currently the best WR in the portal to date, resulting in a lot of teams seeking his abilities. There have been a lot of teams mentioned with Colorado, Texas, and Alabama as potential suitors, but two schools have been mentioned more than the others.

Lovett has his options and I can ultimately see him choosing a big program that wasn’t even mentioned, but right now I’d expect it to be either Tennessee or LSU. The Tigers seem to be in the lead, but the Volunteers are a scary team to recruit against and will attempt to use NIL and quarterback play as motivating factors.

3) Tight End Jaheim Bell, South Carolina, 2020 3-star (#396 nationally, #17 ATH)
- 2022: 25 catches for 231 yards 2 TDs, 73 rushes for 261 yards 3 TDs
Jaheim Bell is a versatile athlete classified as a tight end but is should be viewed as positionless. It’s no surprise that Bell entered the portal, as there were questions regarding his usage throughout the season getting to the point of Bell being outspoken on social media, openly criticizing his coaches.
Florida State has emerged as the team to beat for Bell, with head coach Mike Norvell conducting an in-home visit, resulting in the tight end committing to a visit to Tallahassee this weekend. Expect other major programs to try and disrupt the Seminoles’ momentum, but there seems to be a strong mutual interest between Bell and FSU thus far.

2) Offensive Guard Javion Cohen, Alabama, 2020 4-star (#333 nationally, #25 OT)
The Alabama starter serves as one of the more surprising portal entries, as it is odd that anyone starting at a school like Bama would want to transfer. Regardless of the reasoning, Javion Cohen became one of the premier targets in the portal, as he has started 25 of the last 27 games for the Crimson Tide and even earned SEC All-Freshman Team in 2020.
There hasn’t been too much noise in terms of Cohen’s recruitment besides the fact that he’s locked in a visit to Miami. Expect big named schools, especially SEC schools, to be involved, but as of right now the Hurricanes have secured the momentum to this point.

1) Cornerback Denver Harris, Texas A&M, 2022 5-star (#23 nationally, #4 CB)
- 2022: 14 tackles (10 solos), allowed just 36 yards on 4 receptions (11 targets)
Though not a starter throughout the year, Denver Harris showed his incredible potential in his limited time on the field. His time was limited thanks to off-field issues, as he was suspended for the Miami game followed by an indefinite suspension later in the season. Some schools may be hesitant due to Harris’ off-field issues but there is no denying his talent and oozing potential.
Harris’ time in the portal has been fairly quiet, so there is no clear stand-out leader. The talented DB is a Texas native and took official visits to Alabama, Texas, and LSU in high school, so it would be expected those schools are in the mix.
