Portal Fact or Fiction: Kenny Dillingham, Tony Grimes, Justin Flowe to USC

In Mike Farrell’s Fact or Fiction — Portal Edition, he analyzes Kenny Dillingham’s abilities to recruit the portal…

In today’s Fact or Fiction — transfer portal edition — I look at three big recent topics from the transfer portal and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

1. Kenny Dillingham was made for the transfer portal.

Farrell’s take: FACT

The man is bright, young, and active and he did a great job last year at Oregon in the portal led by QB Bo Nix. And he’s clearly ready for this despite the transition to head coach at Arizona State as we can see by three quick commitments. While BYU QB Jacob Conover, RB DeCarlos Brooks, and LS Slater Zellers, might not be world beaters, the early commitments show how prepared he is while assembling a staff. And the number of early offers out there in the portal is impressive as well.

Kenny Dillingham speaks at a press conference, introducing him as ASU’s new head football coach on Nov 27, 2022, at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ.

2. Tony Grimes will be one of the most sought-after prospects in the portal.

Farrell’s take: FACT

I don’t have enough space to list all the schools interested in the former 5-star CB but these are the ones he’s taking to the most — UGA, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, South Carolina, Colorado, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Penn State. It’s clear he will have his pick of Power Five schools and maybe they’ll allow him to play some press coverage which is a skill set that wasn’t utilized at UNC.

Oct 8, 2022; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; North Carolina Tar Heels defensive back Tony Grimes (1) tackles Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Frank Ladson Jr. (8) during the first half at Hard Rock Stadium.

3. Justin Flowe ends up at USC.

Farrell’s take: FICTION

While heading back home and being closer to family is tempting, his relationship with Mario Cristobal will likely land him in Miami. He committed to Cristobal at Oregon over Clemson and USC and the Trojans had a strong pull with family but in the end, he chose the school he felt would be the best fit. He will do that again.

Nov 5, 2022; Boulder, Colorado, USA; Oregon Ducks linebacker Justin Flowe (10) following the game against the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field.
