We’ll keep the scouting reports rolling on top prospects from across the country.

Tylen Singleton – SAF

Many, LA (Many)

DB prospect who also competes in track and clocked 22.63 in 200 meter sprint last spring. Very good height and good weight with a lot of power from the lower half. Good communicator pre-snap, adjusts based on formations with good processing. Good vision and awareness in zone coverage from his backside hook alignment. Drops back and drives immediately with very good acceleration and explosiveness to disrupt the pass at the catch point. Good range in zone coverage, able to play 2-deep due to his very good acceleration and speed. Very good play strength to extend his arms when engaged and shed blocks. Has good knee bend and uses his very good lower body strength to add force to his tackles.

Was rarely asked to cover straight man to man and almost exclusively lined up in the box. Adequate agility and COD cause him to take ineffective angles in pursuit and smart offenses at the next level will look to test him in man coverage with his adequate ability to mirror vs quicker receivers. Overall a very good box-safety prospect where his athletic ability and strength combined with good instincts give him a safe floor and very high ceiling. Can be trusted to become a major factor in the box for a P5 defense.

Jerrae Hawkins – WR

Wheeling, WV (Wheeling Park)

WR prospect who is garnering interest in the ACC and Big Ten. Also competes in track, ran a confirmed 10.61 in the 100m. Marginal length and poor weight in a small and slender frame with not much room to max out. Elite release vs off coverage, eating ground in a blink with elite acceleration and blazing past zone defenders when running speed routes. Very good release on speed cuts on all levels of the field, challenges their technique and avoids contact at the top of the route with very good agility and balance. Good release on high COD routes in the short area, effective footwork and awareness to create. Uses his very good suddenness to open up throwing windows on zig routes and double moves. Good dexterity and concentration to catch the ball in front of his frame and adjust behind and below with good balance and body control. Very good ball tracking on throws over his shoulder. Elite open field ability, shuts out tacklers and pursuit angles when in space due to elite acceleration and foot speed.

Poor upper body strength lead to him getting jammed off his release easily against press. Marginal core strength gets him pushed off his line against DBs that can stay in stride with him. Size and length limitations can lead to a bunch of PBUs on contested catches and has poor ability to go up and high point the ball due to adequate lower body strength. Good prospect overall as a slot receiver that can also add to his future team as a returner due to his electric athletic ability and solid mental processing. Will likely be limited to the slot/gadget role at the next level due to his size and play strength.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

De’Myrion Johnson – DL

New Iberia, LA (Westgate)

DL prospect who also competes in track, recorded 34-5 in shot put last spring and is receiving interest from SEC and Big Ten programs. Solid height and weight with long arms and very good strength. Solid quickness off the snap, works upfield quickly when gap aligned with solid acceleration. Uses very good upper body strength and punch placement to attack the outside shoulder, take blockers hands off his chest and bring IOL off balance. Shows good knee bend to transform good lower body strength into his bull rush when man aligned and sheds with very good extension and violence to attack ball-carriers showing up in his gap. Wraps up with good leverage and technique to effectively bring down runners off all sizes with very good physical toughness.

Adequate counter moves when not able to win with power. Adequate agility and speed hinder his ability to cross-face or threaten with speed vs quicker vertical setters on the edge. Adequate balance and control on pursuit, gets caught up in traffic from the backside. Body type right now is a bit of a tweener and therefore comes with some schematic limitations, projecting him more to the inside in an attacking scheme that asks him to leverage the A and B gaps. Overall good prospect that can bring big power and pocket collapsing ability to any defense but would do well for his development if his frame can max out more.

Wardell Mack – ATH (CB)

Marrero, LA (John Ehret)

Two-way player who is receiving strong interest from the big SEC programs. Good length and adequate weight in a projectable, strong frame that leaves good room to max out while already sporting very good arm length and good strength. Good skills around the line of scrimmage, uses good upper body strength and hand timing to jam and force his assignment into horizontal release. Shows very good agility and balance in soft press to keep his leverage and disrupt early throwing windows. Elite COD and good knee bend allow him to play in an angular position and stay in stride when man aligned against quicker receivers. Very good backpedal and drive in zone due to his leveraged position and elite acceleration. Good processing and vision of route concepts entering his zone, utilizes the sideline and help over the top to minimize windows in deep and intermediate areas. Good ball skills, shows good tracking and timing to break up the ball at the catch point and get interceptions with solid dexterity.

Vision and understanding of tackling angles is lacking. Adequate physical toughness that leads to arm tackle attempts which he can get away right now but will be more challenging to complete in the SEC. Adequate awareness of run fits and forcing the ball into help defenders on the perimeter, will need to learn pursuit angles and advanced blocking schemes at the next level. All things considered a very good DB prospect with extremely high ceiling due to very good athletic abilities that can be counted on to contribute within his first two years. With more mass to his frame he can be the type of player that becomes a major playmaker in the SEC.
