Names in the News

–5-star S Peyton Bowen, Guyer High School, Denton, Texas.

Peyton Bowen is the No. 24 overall, No. 2 safety, and the No. 5 player in Texas who has been committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish since January. However, schools were still pursuing him, and he did visit the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns, and Texas A&M Aggies. So his recruitment has come down to the Fighting Irish and Sooners. The rumor is that Irish safeties coach Chris O’Leary will be in Texas for an in-home visit on Friday. Plus, some Sooners staff are expected at his team’s (Denton Guyer) playoff game against Southlake Carroll. So Notre Dame is still the choice here, but OU still has a chance to flip him.

5-star safety Peyton Bowen has been unstoppable on punt returns this season. He just took this one 60 yards to the house.https://t.co/yXaty5FApRhttps://t.co/KWub5qJZ7U

–4-star 2024 ATH Braylon Burnside, Starkville High School, Starkville, Mississippi.

Braylon Burnside is the No. 157 overall, No. 15 athlete, and the No. 3 player in Mississippi in the 2024 class, and he has named his top eight schools. They are the Akron Zips, Florida State Seminoles, Jackson State Tigers, Memphis Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, and South Carolina Gamecocks. However, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Rebels as a big favorite, with a 98.2% chance of landing him. Of course, it is too early in the process, and the RPM is only sometimes reliable, but I like the Rebel’s chances.

–4-star EDGE Siale Esera, Timpview High School, Provo, Utah.

Siale Esera has been committed to the BYU Cougars since September 10. Still, he will be taking an official visit this weekend to Los Angeles to visit the UCLA Bruins. He is the No. 359 overall, No. 40 edge, and the No. 4 player in Utah. Despite his pledge, the Bruins continued to pursue him, and now they will get a chance to flip him and add to a Bruins class that ranks No. 59 overall and ninth in the Pac-12. In addition, UCLA is hosting a few other recruits; if they can get some commitments, they will rise in the rankings.

–3-star WR Mikey Matthews, Mission Viejo High School, Mission Viejo, California.

Mikey Matthews is the No. 59 overall, No. 82 wide receiver, and the No. 46 player in California, and he committed to the Utah Utes on Thursday night. Matthews chose the Utes over the Arizona Wildcats, Colorado Buffaloes, and Michigan Wolverines. He is the 16th commit and fourth wide receiver in a Utes class that ranks No. 43 overall and seventh in the Pac-12.

–3-star WR Kaleb Smith, Reedy High School, Frisco, Texas.

Kaleb Smith committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Thursday night. He is the No. 1171 overall, No. 160 wide receiver, and the No. 201 player in Texas. Since February, Smith had been committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders but backed off his pledge when Notre Dame offered him on November 2. That weekend he visited South Bend when the Fighting Irish upset the Clemson Tigers. Smith adds to a Notre Dame class that is ranked No. 3 overall.

–5-star EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, St. John Bosco, Bellflower, California.

Best for last, Matayo Uiagalelei is the No. 32 overall, No. 6 edge, and the No. 4 player in California, and he is still undecided. The top three teams are the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and USC Trojans. However, the Trojans have jumped ahead, as the On3 RPM now has them with a 38.4% chance of landing him. The Buckeyes are next with a 33% chance, and the Ducks at 17.3%. Uiagalelei was at the Coliseum last weekend when the Trojans hosted the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. So his recruitment comes down to the Buckeyes and Trojans, and I do like the Trojans right now.

USC is now favored to land 5-star DL Matayo Uiagalelei, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine✌️
