We’ll keep the scouting reports rolling on top prospects from across the country.
Micah Hudson – WR
Temple, TX (Lake Belton)
Good height, length, and weight with a muscular frame. Elite change of direction and first step allow him to create separation. Very good speed and acceleration quickly takes away cushion that most DBs try to give at the HS level. Shows good, natural hands and the ability to snatch passes outside of his framework. Good understanding of body positioning, boxing out defenders on deep balls and contested catches. At his best after the catch, displaying his very good balance and body control, slipping through tackles in space. Has a special start/stop ability that allows him to ruin a defender’s pursuit angle if they try to mimic his pace.
Like most receivers at this level, he’ll need to refine his route running ability. It’s not necessarily poor, but he’s winning reps now with natural ability alone and still has a year of high school football to play. Will ultimately have his choice of elite Power 5 programs to attend and could see playing time in his first year on campus. Versatile enough to play either inside or outside receiver but will excel in the slot. The type of prospect that will win you games.

Colin Simmons – Edge
Duncanville, TX (Duncanville)
Solid height and weight, good length, and frame with room to grow. Displays elite first step that immediately gives him an advantage on most downs. Shows a good use of hands to shed blocks against the run. Elite bend allows him to utilize a ghost move and dip below tackles in pass rush. Elite acceleration shows when rushing the passer, closing distance quickly. Also displays understanding and a knack for getting the ball out. Has a good understanding of his length and creating leverage to manipulate his matchup and contain the backside of the play. Good tackler, wraps up and secures the ball carrier. Very good competitive toughness, outweighed in most matchups but never looks physically overmatched.
While he does appear to have a frame that supports growth and adding weight, he still must show he can do it. Physical maturity would be the long-term concern, if any. Despite that, this is a player with elite potential. There is a reason that many elite Power 5 schools have already offered and continue to pursue him. His natural pass rush ability and bend make him one of the most coveted players in the 2024 class. He projects to be a multi-year starter that can win you games.

Kobe Black – CB
Waco, TX (Connally)
Good length, height, and overall frame. Good foot quickness at LOS as well as good hip flexibility to be in position to press. Very good patience and good change of direction in staying in phase and mirroring receivers breaking out of routes. Very good ball skills on display both on defense and playing wide receiver. Displays good change of direction and speed with the ball in his hands as well, evading tacklers in short area. More than a willing tackler shows good competitive toughness in run support and good tackling ability on the outside. Plays the deep ball well, good tracking ability and high points the ball. Also shows a good understanding of field awareness, using the sideline as a help defender and boxing out receivers.
Will need to work on refining technique, stands flat footed in off coverage situations. Would like to see more utilization of his length in press scenarios, jamming the receiver at the line. Overall, a very good prospect with elite potential. His frame supports potentially growing into the safety position. Projects as an outside CB with position versatility. A prospect with Power 5 starter potential that will help win games.

Zina Umeozulu – EDGE
Allen, TX (Allen)
Very good length and height, good hand size. Good first step, that paired with solid bend allows him to beat tackles around the edge as a pass rusher. Does a very good job setting the edge and forcing runs inside. Does a good job utilizing his length when engaged, keeping blockers at a distance to keep an eye on the ball carrier and maneuver based on the action of the play. Has a very good motor, pursues ball carriers to the whistle. Very good competitive toughness on display playing on punt coverage and being the first player down the field.
Has adequate play/functional strength, allows smaller players to move him at times. Will need to improve in the weight room as his body continues to fill out. Plays upright, needs to work on keeping pad level down to take more advantage of his length and ability to create leverage. A very good overall prospect that appears to have much more room to grow physically. Projects to be an Edge but also could play with his hand in the dirt as a 4-3 DE. Power 5 programs will continue to pursue him because he is the kind of player that can win games for you.
