Names in the News

–4-star ATH Collins Acheampong, Santa Margarita Catholic, Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

Collins Acheampong is the No. 169 overall, No. 9 athlete, and No. 12 player in California. He flipped to the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday after decommitting from the Michigan Wolverines. Acheampong had been committed to the Wolverines since July. He said,

“It’s been up there for me in terms of relationships with the coaches from day one. Loved my visit there as well, and it did feel like home. That’s why I struggled committing because I was split between the two schools.”

By adding him, the Hurricanes class now ranks at No. 9 overall and first in the ACC. Despite a down season, Mario Cristobal has The U going strong in recruiting.

–3-star DL Cameron Brandt, Sierra Canyon High School, Chatsworth, California.

Cameron Brandt is the No. 435 overall, No. 51 defensive lineman, and No. 27 player in California who is committed to the Stanford Cardinal. However, he received an offer from the Texas Longhorns on Monday night. Brandt has been committed to the Cardinal since July 30, and this offer comes a couple of days after David Shaw stepped down as head coach. The Longhorns class ranks No. 4 overall and has two defensive linemen. So they could have a good chance to flip him.

–5-star S Tony Mitchell, Thompson High School, Alabaster, Alabama.

Tony Mitchell is the No. 34 overall, No. 3 safety, and No. 7 player in Alabama and is committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, he will be visiting the Texas A&M Aggies on December 16. Mitchell said that he still talks to the Aggie staff.

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

“We still stay in contact. The interest is still there. A lot of the coaches on staff always stay in contact with me.”

The Tide is still the team to beat. However, with a visit to College Station and the interest there, I think the Aggies have a real shot at flipping him.

–4-star RB Kendrick Raphael, Naples High School, Naples, Florida.

Kendrick Raphael is the No. 392 overall, No. 28 running back, and No. 76 player in Florida, and he committed to N.C. State Wolfpack on Tuesday morning. He had committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes in June before backing off his pledge on September 21, and the Wolfpack began to really pursue him. Raphael chose N.C. State over the Boston College Eagles, BYU Cougars, Iowa State Cyclones, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Pittsburgh Panthers, Purdue Boilermakers, and West Virginia Mountaineers. The Wolfpack class now has 15 commitments and ranks at No. 38 overall.
