Names in the News

–4-star DL Johnny Bowens, Judson High School, Converse. Texas.

Johnny Bowens will announce his commitment on Thanksgiving Day, deciding between the Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, and Texas A&M Aggies. He is the No. 294 overall prospect, No. 41 defensive lineman, and No. 54 player in Texas. He had committed to the Aggies last December but backed off his pledge on June 28 and reopened his recruitment. Since then, he has taken official visits to Eugene and College Station, and it looks like the Ducks have taken the lead. Bowens was there in September when they hosted the Stanford Cardinal. I like the Ducks here, but the Aggies still are in the mix despite their down season and rumblings surrounding Jimbo Fisher.

–4-star QB Brock Glenn, Lausanne Collegiate School, Memphis, Tennessee.

Brock Glenn, the No. 378, No. 22 quarterback, and No. 12 player in Tennessee, flipped his commitment from the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Florida State Seminoles on Monday. He had been committed to the Buckeyes since July. Glenn said,

“I like Coach Norvell and the quarterback-friendly offense that he runs. He develops players every year, and he has a great staff surrounding him. I love all of the coaches on the Florida State staff from a coaching perspective but also their personalities.”

With his commitment, the Seminoles moved up in the class rankings and now have the No. 17 recruiting class overall and are third in the ACC.

–4-star QB Kenny Minchey, Pope John Paul II High School, Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Kenny Minchey committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday. He is the No. 254 overall, No. 15 quarterback, and No. 4 player in Tennessee, and he had been committed to the Pittsburgh Panthers since June before backing off his pledge on November 14. Micnchey now gives Notre Dame the 24 commitment and the quarterback they needed for their 2023 class that ranks No. 3 overall. Marcus Freeman has had some ups and down in his first season in South Bend, but the Fighting Irish are heading in the right direction.

–4-star 2024 WR Tyseer Denmark, Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Tyseer Denmark, the No. 87 overall, No. 14 wide receiver, and No. 2 player in Pennsylvania in the 2024 class, will announce his decision on Thanksgiving Day. His top three schools are the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and Penn State Nittany Lions. The 247 Sports Crystal Ball and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine have the Buckeyes leading. The Crystal Ball gives them a 57.1% chance, while the RPM has them higher with a 96.3% chance of landing them. Despite that, I like the Ducks here. He has a great relationship with the Ducks staff, and when asked what stood out about them, he said,

“Everything!” “Facilities are top-notch, and everyone was showing love. Growing up, that was my dream school, so seeing it in person was awesome.”

My prediction is he chooses the Ducks.

–4-star 2024 ATH Garrett Stover, Big Walnut High School, Sunbury, Ohio.

Garrett Stover, the No. 168 overall, No. 17 athlete, and No. 6 player in Ohio in the 2024 class, committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday night. He is an in-state kid who had been to a Buckeye one-day camp in June and earned a scholarship. Stover had been to The Horseshoe when the Buckeyes hosted the Toledo Rockets, Wisconsin Badgers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Indiana Hoosiers. Ohio State currently has 19 commitments in their 2023 class that, ranks No. 6 overall and first in the Big Ten. Ryan Day and the Bucks keep winning on the field and the recruiting trail.
