Names in the News

–4- star S Randon Fontenette, Brazosport High School, Freeport, Texas.

Randon Fontenette is the No. 314 overall and No. 32 safety in the 2023 class. He is also the No. 57 prospect in Texas and had been committed to the Utah Utes since July until he decommitted on November 3. The TCU Horned Frogs, who are undefeated and ranked No. 4 in this week’s College Football Playoff, appear to be the leaders to land him. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine and 247 Sports Crystal Ball have TCU in the lead, and I agree with that. . However, the Oklahoma Sooners, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Texas Longhorns are also in on him.

–4- star CB CJ Blocker, New Caney High School, New Caney, Texas.

CJ Blocker is the No. 414 overall, No. 43 cornerback in the 2023 class, and the No. 69 prospect in Texas. He just moved up in the rankings, making him a four-star recruit, and he has been committed to the Utah Utes since June. In addition, Blocker has offers from the Boston College Eagles, Kansas State Wildcats, Michigan State Spartans, Missouri Tigers, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies are two other programs that interest him, but he doesn’t have an offer from them but communicates with them. The USC Trojans were the latest program to offer him as they did on November 8th. However, Blocker plans to sign in February, so he is in no rush. Keep an eye out for the Crimson Tide here.

– 4-star QB Jaden Rashada, Pittsburg High School, Pittsburg, California

Jaden Rashada is the No. 57 overall and No. 7 quarterback in the class of 2023 and the No. 5 prospect in California. He flipped his commitment last night to the Florida Gators. Rashada committed to the Miami Hurricanes in July, choosing them over the Gators. Despite committing, the Gators never let up, and offensive coordinator Rob Sale was a big reason why. He said,

“Coach Sale and I got to sit down and talk about the offense when I visited, and we clicked.”

Rashada also said that he had always dreamed of playing in the SEC. His commitment adds to an already strong Gators recruiting class, which ranks 8 in the nation.

–4-star WR Jeremiah McClure, Mater Dei Catholic, Chula Vista, California.

Jeremiah McClure is the No. 261 overall and No. 34 wide receiver in the class of 2023 and the No. 18 prospect in California. He will announce his commitment on November 15, and his final four schools are the Arizona Wildcats, Indiana Hoosiers, UCLA Bruins, and Washington Huskies. The On3 RPM has the Wildcats as the leaders, with a 43.7% chance of landing him, with the Bruins trailing in second, and McClure was at the Rose Bowl in September when the Bruins hosted South Alabama. Despite that, I agree with the predictions that he will choose Arizona. But keep an eye on the Bruins here.

–4-star DL Ashton Porter, Cy Ranch High School, Cypress, Texas.

Ashton Porter is the No. 305 overall and No. 43 defensive line prospect in the 2023 class and the No. 56 prospect in Texas. He will make his announcement on January 3, with his top five teams being the Houston Cougars, Michigan State Spartans, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Oregon Ducks, and TCU Horned Frogs. He had been committed to the Northwestern Wildcats but decommitted in October. In October, Porter was in Fort Worth when the Horned Frogs hosted the Kansas State Wildcats, his last visit. He also visited the Spartans when they hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes. Right now, it looks like the Spartans are the leaders, as the On3 RPM gives them a 25.6% chance to land him. However, a decision is likely in January, and I would keep an eye on TCU.
