In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Jim Leonhard was right to push athletic director Chris McIntosh.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
The interim head coach at Wisconsin recently hinted that AD Chris McIntosh needed to make a decision on the permanent head coaching job sooner than later. He made some good points. Wisconsin doesn’t want to fall behind in recruiting nor is the uncertainly for players and coaches good for the program. But McIntosh needs to wait until after the season and honestly after the early signing period to make this a national search and see who’s available. It’s rare for interim coaches to have success long term at programs and even if Leonhard looks like a great fit we are seeing how important head coaching experience is this year as Marcus Freeman, Brent Venables and others show us. Take your time Wisconsin.

2. Hugh Freeze should be the next coach at Auburn.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Freeze has his Liberty team bowl eligible and rolling again even with QB issues and he’s proven he can win big in the SEC West from his days at Ole Miss. He’s been to two New Years Six bowls, he has three wins over A&M, two over Alabama, LSU and Auburn and he can boast wins across conference against Georgia and Tennessee. This guy wins and he’s the perfect fit. This has to happen.

3. George Kliavkoff is lying about lack of support for USC and UCLA moving to Big Ten.
Farrell’s take: FACT
C’mon man. I know you’re hurt that USC and UCLA are leaving but to say you’ve spoken to more than 100 people between the two schools and not one has had a positive take on this move is a flat out lie. Or maybe they just don’t want to hurt your feelings. I’ve talked to many people on each side of this and there is nothing but excitement leaving a PAC 12 that has continually been minimized in the national scope to the Big Ten where football matters. The new PAC 12 commish isn’t being honest.
