In today’s Fact or Fiction — Recruiting Edition — I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
1. Daevin Hobbs is a Vols lean.
Farrell’s take: FACT
Hobbs will be back to see the Vols for their game against Alabama and I know the Tide, UGA and others are high on his list. But while I also thought he was a lean to Alabama followed by Georgia, sources are telling me that with a great weekend the Vols are the team to beat. This doesn’t mean they have to win. The atmosphere has to be crazy, and it will be, and the game close and they should have a continued edge for the North Carolina DE when he leaves.

2. The Gators have a top 10 class in 2023.
Farrell’s take: FACT
The additions of DBs Dijon Johnson and Bryce Thornton push the Gators into the top 10 for me. They are right there at No. 10, so they aren’t pressing Alabama and Ohio State at the top, but these are key positional needs for Billy Napier in this class. The Gators now have one of the best defensive back classes in 2023 and have also done very well at DE and WR. And I love Treyaun Webb, my No. 5 running back in the country, as well. It’s still lacking along the OL and Marcus Stokes is solid but not spectacular at QB but this is a class that is coming together.

3. The Vols will sway WR Carnell Tate.
Farrell’s take: FICTION
More Sports News
The five star WR and No. 1 WR in my rankings chose Ohio State over the Vols, Notre Dame and others but he will be on Rocky Top this weekend for a huge game against Alabama. Will the atmosphere and perhaps a big win sway him? It could but I don’t think it’s likely. This Tennessee offense is fun to watch and intriguing to play in but we see what the Buckeyes are doing with wide receivers recently and Ryan Day gets who he wants at WR. I think Tate remains solid.
