The Brent Venables era has suddenly taken a major turn for the worse. The Sooners had absolutely no answer on either side of the ball for their arch-rival Texas. The Sooners’ offense could only muster 195 yards of total offense while Texas, with the return of their coveted QB Quinn Ewers, torched OU for 585 yards. Ewers went 21 for 31 passing for 289 yards and 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. OU, who was without QB Dillon Gabriel, used a multitude of QBs, all of which did nothing of merit for the offense.
Turning Point in the Game
To be honest, the second touchdown of the game was the turning point for Texas here. Quinn Ewers started getting hot completing a 13, 38, and another 13-yard pass to torch OU’s defense and capped it off with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy to go up 14-0.

Texas Game Ball: QB Quinn Ewers
Could it be anyone else? Ewers came back from the injury he got in the Alabama game and looked like he never left. His only mistake was a throw off of his back foot that floated for an easy interception, but this Texas team is clearly much better and more lethal with Ewers under center.
Oklahoma Game Ball: No one
I tried hard to find anyone to give the game ball to, but with only 11 first downs and under 200 yards of total offense, nothing remotely stands out. This was bludgeoning.

Game Thoughts & Notes
1. Oklahoma was affected more by Lincoln Riley’s departure than we originally thought. Losing QBs Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams clearly was a huge hit looking back and now Oklahoma, who looked promising early on, is now an absolute mess. With teams like Kansas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State on the schedule left, this Sooner team may barely make a bowl game.
2. Texas would be 6-0 today if Ewers never gets hurt against Alabama. With him back, they have a serious shot to make their way to the Big 12 Championship Game.
3. Oklahoma needs to establish a suitable backup QB that can actually help this offense function. That was ugly.
What This Means for Texas
Keeping Ewers healthy is the key to Texas being a threat. A tough stretch looms in their last five games playing at Oklahoma State, at Kansas State, TCU, at Kansas, and Baylor, but with Ewers, all things are possible.
Texas torches OU 49-0.

What This Means for Oklahoma
Get Dillon Gabriel back and pray. OU can still try to make a bigger bowl game, but at this point, I don’t know how they will be better than 7-5. Do anything to salvage the season and try to end year one of the Venables era respectably.
