Recruiting Round-Up: Oklahoma Scorching Hot on the Trail

Recruiting Round-up 7/13-7/14 2022

In today’s edition of recruiting round-up, we start out looking at what the Oklahoma Sooners have been doing on the trail this month. They have added a plethora of talented blue-chip prospects to their 2023 class and they are not yet done adding more this month. Brent Venables staff did an excellent job to close the 2022 class after Lincoln Riley left sending a storm through OU’s commitments. Plummeting OU’s class temporarily outside the top 25. They finished 8th, because of Venables and his staff. Oklahoma under Venables takes some similar approaches to recruiting that Clemson does. Requiring a commitment means no more visits, so the commit count may end up slower in some cycles than others, but the dam broke in July, and it’s flooding. This new look Oklahoma staff has more momentum than the previous one on the trail. If you haven’t bought Oklahoma and Brent Venables stock do it now.

Four-Star DL Enow Etta Commits to Michigan

Enow Etta is a 6’5 260-pound defensive lineman from Colleyville Texas. Enow is a solid athlete who also plays basketball and has an 81.5-inch wingspan. Smart player, who plays with good leverage and strong technique. Very quick, good eye for the snap gets a good clean start. Could play outside or inside on the defensive line at the next level. Good instincts rushing the passer and is a sure tackler. Nice pick up for Harbough and company who beat out some big names for the blue-chip defensive stalwart

Four-Star LB Tony Rojas Commits to Penn State

Rojas is a 6’1 200-pound linebacker who was a multi-position star for his team in Fairfax, Va. He was extremely productive as a running back, and also contributed as an edge rusher.  Penn State looks to add him as a traditional linebacker, and he has a lot of coveted traits. He is quick and can go sideline to sideline. Has good instincts, and is a high IQ player. Tony can change direction quickly, and also has room on his body to add about 30 pounds or so. He can be a quick impact player for the Nittany Lions, and James Franklin got themselves a good one.

Penn State is trending for 2 major defensive pieces in the coming weeks.

Four-Star RB Daylan Smothers commits to Oklahoma

The 5’11 185-pound Daylon Smothers is the second running back to commit to DeMarco Murray this cycle. The Charlotte, NC native is one heck of a get for the Sooners. Arguably the best player in the state of North Carolina having won MR. North Carolina. Smothers is a one-cut back with a ton of physical traits you like to see. He can outrun you, has good vision, and can run you over as well. He accounted for over 1700 yards as a junior and 30 touchdowns. Very productive player. Smothers needs to put on some weight so will likely redshirt once he gets to Oklahoma. I suspect, he will be a four-year player with an NFL future.
