Recruiting Round-Up 7/11/22

In Today’s edition of recruiting round-up, we look at the job Brian Kelly has done so far on the recruiting trail. While the trail was questionable ending the 2022 cycle it’s often difficult to recruit to what was an unstable program in the final hours of a class. But Kelly was able to grind and get an excellent transfer portal class in. 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes are off to a good start for Brian Kelly and his LSU family.

Four-Star WR Joseph Stone Commits to LSU (2024 class)

Joseph Stone is technically listed as an athlete as some schools prefer to recruit his talents for the defensive side of the ball. However, it is reported that LSU will utilize him as a WR. The 5’11 180 pounds high school junior is a dynamic athlete. Stone has played some quarterback for his high school, mostly used as a running quarterback.  The Loganville, Georgia product had offers from several top-tier programs such as Michigan, Penn State, Oklahoma, and in-state Georgia but chose LSU over those options. Too early to gauge his chances at early playing time as he has not peaked as a high school athlete, having just finished his sophomore season. However he is a twitchy athlete with outstanding change of direction and speed.

Four-Star QB Dylan Lonergan Commits to Alabama
Dylan is a 6’2 QB from Snellville, Georgia who is a two-sport athlete. Lonergan is a quite highly respected baseball prospect as well and could be playing both sports at Alabama. The Tide also has QB Eli Holstein who committed from this cycle. It is unusual for a program to take two QBs in one class but Alabama did so when they picked up Tua and Mac in the same cycle a few years back. That worked out okay, so there is a precedent. From my understanding, there are some rumors of some quarterbacks on campus considering entering the portal. Saban and staff have an idea of how many signal callers they want at a time. From the perspective of talent Lonergan has plenty of it, he is a big-bodied kid with true dual-threat ability. He has good footwork and a big arm. Of the two prospects, I would consider Dylan the less developed but better talent when compared to Holstein. Whose game is more dedicated to timing and good decisions.

Four-Star OT Lucas Simmons Commits to Florida State

This kid is a mountain from Sweden. The international prospect checks in at 6’7 300 pounds. Being from Sweden he is new to football and has a ways to go from being a complete prospect. However, his natural ability is impossible to ignore. He is a tremendous athlete who is very strong. He is also long with an 82-inch wingspan. He overwhelms the opposition and his projection alone has him being drafted one day in the NFL. For the Noles, this is great news after some tough pills to swallow so far this offseason on the recruiting front.

Four-Star RB London Montgomery Commits to Penn State

A young Pennsylvania native is staying home! The 5’10 180-pound Scranton prospect. The young man is a multi-sport talent with solid speed and physicality. He ran for over 2300 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior. From a style standpoint, he appears to be a one-cut back with plenty of explosion and adequate top-end speed. He is not a flashy player in many ways reminds of former Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks. There is nothing remarkable about the prospect except that he produces. At the end of the day you can win a lot of football games with talent like that.

Four-Star Interior OL Madden Sanker Commits to Louisville

The Ville has done some good stuff on the recruiting trail so far add in another blue chipper in Madden Sanker. Another quality player from Georgia this young man is an absolute bowling ball of a player at 6’4 305 pounds. He is aggressive and a mauler, he gets to the second level consistently and is a bit of an enforcer on the field. He should play early at Lousiville as he is just made of something different than most of the lineman they are able to recruit and bring into the building.

Other Commitments Today

Three-Star WR Lamar Seymore commits to Pitt

This wraps up tonight’s edition of recruiting round-up. A somewhat quiet day overall when compared to the last few nights. This feels like the calm before the storm. We’ll see you tomorrow! Perhaps Brian Kelly can maintain some of his momentum from recent days? The LSU community would sure approve of that!
