[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]The transfer portal never seems to stop churning. Since Bentavious Thompson committed to Oklahoma and Demarckus Bowman is back in the portal, it’s time to update the five best running backs in the portal right now. It’s not a sexy list but there is talent here.
1. Demarkcus Bowman – Florida
Transfer portal entry date: 6-24-2022
Grad-transfer: No
Career at Clemson/Florida: Bowman rushed for 32 yards on nine carries at Clemson and then 81 yards on 14 carries during the 2021 season with the Gators. He has averaged 4.9 yards per carry.
Current situation: It is not often that a late June portal entry creates a stir, but that is exactly what happened on Friday night when Bowman entered. So while he has not been available for long, who has made early contact? Maryland, UCF, Tennessee and Utah State are schools to watch, and if he chooses to stay local, another option could be Florida A&M.
2. Chaton Mobley – Middle Tennessee
Transfer portal entry date: 1-10-2022
Grad-transfer: Yes
Career at Middle Tennessee: Mobley was a steady contributor with the Blue Raiders, finishing his time there with 1,432 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He also proved effective in the passing game with 39 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Current situation: In an interesting twist, Mobley took an April official visit to Ole Miss, but as a linebacker recruit. He has not played the position since high school, but the Rebels are still working on trying to talk him into the change. Other interest has come in from the likes of Charlotte, Rutgers, Sam Houston, UNLV, Mississippi State, and Tulsa.
3. Ramon Jefferson – Sam Houston
Transfer portal entry date: 1-14-2022
Grad-transfer: Yes
Career at Sam Houston: Jefferson started his collegiate career at Maine, before transferring to Garden City CC and then Sam Houston. An All-American with the Bearkats, Jefferson rushed for 1,907 yards and 20 touchdowns in 22 games.
Current situation: Jefferson initially committed to Colorado in late January, but then re-opened his process in May. Schools like Kentucky and Tennessee quickly jumped to the forefront, which resulted in a recent visit to Lexington. The Wildcats were seen to be the heavy favorite, but that situation suddenly went silent a week ago.
4. Max Modeste – UConn
Transfer portal entry date: 4-30-2022
Grad-transfer: No
Career at UCONN: Modeste did not see the field during his true freshman season with the Huskies.
Current situation: Modeste was a bit of an unknown when he entered the portal, but when he picked up offers from Memphis and Cal, more interest quickly rolled in. Now also hearing from Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Wofford, Towson, Tennessee-Martin and Incarnate Word, Modeste has become a hot name in the portal.
5. Malcolm Davidson – FAU
Transfer portal entry date: 12-1-2021
Grad-transfer: No
Career at Florida Atlantic: Davidson totaled 1,317 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground during his career with the Owls. He also averaged 6.3 yards per carry and added 11 receptions.
Current situation: Davidson has and continues to get steady interest from a number of Group of Five programs, including Middle Tennessee, Liberty, UTSA, Ohio and UNLV, as well as FCS programs like Wofford, Rhode Island, Kennesaw State and Tennessee-Martin.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
