Fact or Fiction: CJ Stroud, Marcus Freeman, UGA Recruiting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

CJ Stroud should be the No. 1 QB in college football rankings

Farrell’s take: FICTION

I recently released my Farrell 50 of the top 50 quarterbacks in college football on Twitter, and it drew expected responses, all of them negative. But the debate about who is on top was especially interesting. I have Bryce Young at No. 1, but that could easily be flipped with my No. 2 CJ Stroud. I went with Young because he did it against the SEC, played more games, and took his team into the playoff, while Stroud fell short last season. But it could very well be 1A and 1B.

Fact or Fiction:

Marcus Freeman took a shot at Ohio State academics

Farrell’s take: FACT

He may have walked it back in recent days but let’s be clear – when the Notre Dame head coach spoke about being able to miss classes at Ohio State and be okay, the university he graduated from, he was taking a shot. And it was a recruiting pitch more than anything. Freeman was trying to speak to the academic standards at Notre Dame, which are much higher than those at Ohio State, and perhaps he went too far with the obvious slap at the Buckeyes and online classes. But to say he didn’t mean anything by it is false. He knew what he was saying.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

Fact or Fiction:

UGA continues to win the recruiting battle over Alabama

The Best Way to End the Scheduling Debate

The commitment from Alabama DB AJ Harris to UGA over Alabama continues to show that Kirby Smart is the lead dog, no pun intended, in recruiting. While 2022 was a small step back from three No. 1 finishes for Georgia, they are always in the top five and continue to build a roster that has staying power.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
