Fact or Fiction

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image source=”featured_image” img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.

Notre Dame and Ohio State are dominating from the north in 2023

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s not easy to recruit at a high level outside of the great weather down south. Southern teams (and west coast teams to some extent) have that weather advantage that is rarely talked about in this day of NIL. But Notre Dame and Ohio State are off to fabulous starts and luring talent from Florida, Texas and other warm weather states to boot. This isn’t a huge surprise for the Buckeyes as they did well under Urban Meyer and it led to a national title. Ryan Day has kept things rolling as well. But for Notre Dame? With academic restrictions others don’t have? This is impressive. This is the way to win a national title. Recruit nationally, win locally and build a roster that can compete with Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, and others.

Washington is out already for DE Jayden Wayne

Farrell’s take: FICTION

The Tacoma native loved his Oregon visit and loved the defensive approach of new head coach Dan Lanning and defensive mind Tosh Lupoi. And Kayvon Thibodeux’s success doesn’t hurt. He has also been linked to numerous SEC programs like Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida, and others. But keep an eye on Washington here as well and don’t be fooled — they are in this. This is a new staff but they are aggressive in recruiting and know how important this local rush end is. He visited in March and will visit quite a few more times. If I had to predict, it would be Oregon or SEC right now but the Huskies are being overlooked.

USC is building a monster

Farrell’s take: FACT

It’s coming together quickly and if Jordan Addison chooses the Trojans over Texas it could explode. Lincoln Riley is taking his time with high school recruiting and picking and choosing who he wants as the entire west coast is interested. But key additions like DL Solomon Byrd and DB Jacobe Covington can’t be overlooked. The defense needs help and he’s adding plug and play guys. And if the defense can hold up, that offense will be tough to stop.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
